Great Wall stamina test Beijing Dispatches

By Frank Greally

Presidents gather on Great Wall I discovered a brilliant new training ground here in Beijing this morning- The Great Wall of China-a stunning visitor attraction a a most demanding climbing experience.

A months training here on the Great Wall would do wonders for knee lift and stamina.

While on my little excursion to The Great Wall during a lull in competition, I met up with not one, but two former Presidents of Athletics Ireland – or BLE, as it was then called.

I first met Padraig Griffin half-way up the climb and on my descent, I met Fr John O’Donnell who was holding court with Sean Callan, Harry Gorman, Matt Rudden, Eric Hayward, Mick Kearney and other Irish fans of Track & Field. It’s a very small world indeed.

And those who are lapped….

Has anybody got thoughts that they would like to share about what should happen with lapped runners in events like Olympic Games Finals.

My own thoughts on the matter is that the lapped runner should be obliged to move out a lane-especially in an event like the men’s 10,000m final.

Please let me have some ‘Web Browsers’ thoughts on this. You can reach me at Email: editor@irishrunner.ie

Can Cragg do fast re-focus?

Alistair Cragg will have very little time to re-focus and get himself fully physched for Saturday’s men’s 5,000 meters Olympic Final.

He has a brilliant opportunity now to pop a big performance in the Olympic Stadium and he is sure to be delighted with the news that he qualified as a fastest loser.

He can have no doubt but the Irish nation will be plugging for him on Saturday and wiling him to at least a personal best in the final.
