Entry closes Nov 21st Remembering the tragic events of Boston Marathon of April 15th 2013 and as a mark of respect to those who suffered in the city that day, this year`s Clonakilty Waterfront Marathons finisher`s medal will have Boston recognized on its design.
There will be a minute silence before the start-after the blessing of the runners/walkers –by Father Eddie Collins.
The first (and finishing) mile will be renamed “ The Boston Mile” in memory of those people who lost their lives and for those who will be forever scarred and hurt by this sad moment in time.
A large billboard will be placed on the last turn onto the home stretch to the finish line serving as a backdrop to the Start/Finish with the words “ BOSTON UNITED WE STAND “.
This canvas will have an acknowledgment to those who died and were hurt on this tragic day and should they wish participants and local people can sign a personal message of respect at registration December 5/6 th December at The Quality Hotel 10 am -9 pm. The canvas will be brought back to be presented to The Boston Marathon .
Boston race photographer Liz Cardoso was 7 meters from the first blast on April 15th photographing the event and she has kindly accepted an invitation to come to Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon to capture each runner/walker on the final 100 meters of The Boston Mile to the finish.
She will also be on hand to record images leading up to and after the race. Liz will also be hosting a talk and a slide show of her photographic images talking about that day. This event will be held on registration day ,Friday December 6th at The Quality Hotel,Clonakilty.
Liz final duty will be to return to her city with the signed Waterfront “ BOSTON –UNITED WE STAND “ canvas and present this to the organizers of The Boston Marathon on behalf of Clonakilty .

This year`s Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon will introduce a PHOTO WALL to capture “ YOUR MOMENT ON YOUR DAY “ allowing the runner/walker to be photographed with their special finisher`s medal upon crossing the finish line and if it can be organized to include family and friends on this special moment. These photos will be available to download for FREE on the www.runclon.ie website as a Christmas present for participants to remember their special day.
Participants will also have the opportunity to be wrapped in their national flag at the PHOTO WALL.
Participants will also for this years event have their own personalized Named Race Bib .
There will be 26 inspirational signs along the route to encourage runners/walkers through the course.
Inspired by Justin England, Clonakilty Town Clerk, himself a proud supporter of the marathon from day one. Clonakilty Waterfront Marathon with the kind support of Clonakilty Town Council, Co Council ,Rob Walsh printer and “ find yourself “ logo will erect a total of 26 4×4 foot signs to participants as they make their way along the route.
