
Saturday September 7th 2013 Sample the atmosphere in Kilkenny the day before the All Ireland Hurling Final
The Kilkenny Half Marathon inc. The Gathering of The Gaels 10K & 5K Fun Run will take place on Saturday September 7th at 10 A.M. from O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Club and covering the infamous old Johnswell Route.
The course has been designed by the experienced Paddy Neary, John MacDonald, Sean Cleere, Don Egan and Brian Kelly.
Athletes will have access to all the facilities in the O’Loughlin Gaels GAA Centre which will include SHOWERS for both men and women and secure storage for personal belongings. Refreshments will be served after the race and live entertainment at the start and end of the race will ensure a fantastic atmosphere.
The atmosphere in Kilkenny on the day preceding an All Ireland Hurling Final is electric and hopefully the ‘Cats can make it to their 8th final in a row and the many travelling athletes can sample it. Hotels and guest houses are plentiful in Kilkenny and the pubs and restaurants are legendary.The Kilkenny Half Marathon inc. The timing of the event, of course, was chose specifically to coincide with training schedules for The Dublin City Marathon. The Johnswell route will provide a fair but tough test for athletes.The facilities in O’Loughlin Gaels GAA club are top class and will be laid open to the athletes for the day. Kilkenny is very central and also very popular with visitors. All in all this inaugural event is turning into one of the "Must Runs" of 2013.
