The AAI Novice and Masters County Road Championships, Whitechurch, 12:00, Sunday February 17th 2008. Updated to include course maps!

This year’s Championships are being hosted by Eagle AC, the first time the Club has hosted a championship.

The combined Men’s Novice and Masters race, over 4 miles, takes place first, at 12 noon, followed by the ladies 2 mile event, at approx. 12.45pm. Entries to Cork AAI Co Board Competition Secretary, Paddy Buckley by Wednesday 13th.

The men’s route starts close to the village on the road leading to the community hall. Going away from the village, the race head mostly downslope towards the old Mallow Road and takes a left past Sluggera Cross, heading downwards all the time. The two mile mark is reached approx. 1/4 mile after Sluggera. The route takes the next left, just before the 3 mile mark, beginning the uphill section. While the first 3 miles are largely downslope, the final mile is mostly upwards, with a nasty little hill at 400m to go. The finish is just beyond the hall.

The ladies start is just before the men’s 1 mile mark. However the ladies will head in the opposite direction to the men, i.e. back towards the village, and their course is largely upslope for the first 1 1/4 mile. Taking a right in the village, they then head around a small triangle and back towards the hall, finishing at the same finish line as the men, but from the opposite direction. The final 3/4 mile is all downslope, making for a very fast finish.
