Irish Wheelchair Association is a national charity, which was founded in 1960 by a small group of wheelchair users committed to improving the lives of people with physical disabilities in Ireland . Irish Wheelchair Association Carrick-on-Shannon hosts one of our many Resource & Outreach Centres where members can come together on a daily basis. In Carrick-on-Shannon we provide services for people with physical and sensory disabilities with a core staff and volunteer base. The Resource Centre provide our members with a range of programmes and activities both centre and community based. Among the wide range of services we provide are Driving Tuition and Motoring, Accessible Transport, Respite and Peer Counselling just to mention a few.
The 10k Run will provide valuable funds for Irish Wheelchair Association Carrick-on-Shannon. All Funds Raised as a result of this event will go to local services.
The Start of the Run/Walk will be at 11:00 at Irish Wheelchair Association Castlecarra Road Carrick-On Shannon. This can be found on the Dublin road out of Carrick just after the Tesco roundabout. If the numbers warrant we will start the walk prior to the run.
This is an inaugural event and there will be an entry fee of just €10. It is an accurate wheel measured course consisting of 2 laps of 4K and a final out and back 2K on the same lap so nice and compact. Each K is marked and there will be trophies for the winners and age group recognition and certificates. Spot prizes are donated by sponsors and there will be refreshments in IWA after the event. There will be plenty of parking in the area on the day and the army of marshalls will direct you. Order Of Malta will provide our medical cover. We will continue to update as the day gets nearer.
