Derval O’Rourke ran a season’s best of 12.98 in the 100m hurdles to finish seventh at the Diamond League in Lausanne Thursday night. This improves on her season opener at the European Team Championships of 13.11. This time was also just two hundredths outside the qualification standard for the World Championships and the Olympic Games. The race was won by Sally Pearson of Australia in 12.47.

Fionnuala Britton produced another solid performance to finish seventh in the 3000m Steeplechase in 9:38.88, just over a second outside her personal best of 9:37.60 that she set at the Diamond League in New York.

David Gillick was disqualified for false starting in the men’s 400m adding to what has been a less than impressive start to the season for the Dublin man. There was further disappointment when Alistair Cragg failed to finish in the men’s 5000m.

In the women’s B 100m Niamh Whelan finished seventh in 11.72, while Ailis McSweeney who has just returned to competition after an injury finished eighth in 12.12. The women’s 4x100m relay team finished fifth in 45.71.
