Lanesborough Triathlon 2nd annual Triathlon

From Comans Swimming club Lanesborough will catch some serious national attention on the 3rd July at 10am As well as promoting triathlon it will also give participants and spectators a chance to see some of Ireland’s most beautiful and unspoiled heritage and environment.

The is organised by the local Comans Swimming club, and sponsored by the Roscommon Herald.

The event is organized by top triathlon and swimming coach Sebastien Locteau who has coached many swimmers and triathletes to international level and who also has a proven background in organising top sports events such as the International Portumna Marathon. He recently organised the very successful is gearing up for the Cope Galway Ocean Triathlon on the 12th of  June and is looking forward to hosting second annual Lanesborough triathlon this summer.

We  aims to provide opportunities for guests to explore Lough Ree and its environs and to increase awareness of our environment” said Comans Head Coach Sebastien Locteau. The triathlon event will greatly add to the success providing new opportunity for local and visiting participants to utilise the beautiful natural facilities that the area of Lanesborough provides.
 

The swim will consist of descending Lough Ree for 750m going under the superb Lanesborough Bridge. The participants will then cycle 22kmon the Ballymahon road and back to finish with a 5km run through the Forest.
Waterway Ireland is supporting the events, along with Coilte and the Roscommon Herald our Title sponsored.
 

The event will cater for the full family and all levels of participants being a particularly suitable event for beginners to complete their first triathlon, although it’s not just aimed at beginners. A mini Try-Athlon will also be held for those who wish to try a triathlon event , the distances of the mini tryathlon are: 100m swim, 3km cycling, 1km run. (1/5 of the event). There will also be a fun run held for children and their parents while the triathlon is underway to keep all members of the family involved.
 

The entry fees are €45 for the Triathlon and €15 for the Mini Triathlon. As with all such events they could not take place without the help and support of local businesses and  local authorities which has been superb so far since the planning of the event began. The event is covered by Triathlon Ireland and might require a one day licence.
