Achill Island 5k & 10k With the race day 30th of April looming ever closer, 26 Extreme, the company responsible for the Mourne Way Marathon, Causeway Coast Marathon and Irelands Coast 2 Coast multi Sport Race, have reported record numbers of entries into the Achill 10K and 5k races.

Taking place from Keel on Achill Island on the 30th of April, the 10k event gives runners of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy some of Achill Islands most breathtaking scenery whilst passing historical sites and Island Life along the way. The 10k even takes in the beach with the last 2km to the finish line on the famous strand at Keel, one of Achill Islands 5 “Blue Flag Beaches”.
The 5k event will take place entirely on the beach at Keel, surly one of the most scenic races in the country.
Ian Cumming from 26 Extreme Said: I love Achill; I have been coming here since I was a child to enjoy the surf and hospitality of its people. We are delighted to be able to run this event on what I consider to be one of the most beautiful parts of our country.
So far there have been entries coming in from all over Ireland and from as far away as France. It’s hoped that this will provide a much needed boost to the Island with most of the competitors opting to stay, eat and shop on or near the Achill. For 2011, 26 Extreme will also be giving €1 from each entry directly to the Achill Lifeboat and encourage anyone looking to raise money for a good cause to consider the RNLI.
Rowan McMahon from 26 Extreme said: I have raced all over Europe in running and adventure racing events, but few places I have been compare Achill Island. Even before you leave you are working out when you will be back. From the scenery and range of outdoor activities to the turf fires and Guinness, Achill has it all.
If you still haven’t entered the event you are advised to log onto www.26extreme.com and confirm your entry as the cut off deadline for entries is almost up.
