29th Septemver 2013 – The Curragh Racecourse The third annual Jog For Jockeys charity fundraiser will consist of a 5km and 10km run staged at one venue – the Curragh Racecourse – on September 29th, followed by a full day of horse racing featuring the Group 2 Juddmonte Beresford Stakes. All monies raised will be donated to the Irish Injured Jockeys Fund
Commenting on the reasons behind the format change, Event Coordinator Audrey O’Dwyer said: “This year we have had a stark reminder of the risks taken by the men and women who ride our racehorses and the possibility of tragic outcomes when racing accidents occur. The aim is to raise as much as possible and make it a fun day for all involved. With all of our efforts concentrated on one larger-scale event, I am confident that this will be our best year to date. The 10km has been added to attract the more experienced runner, however, both distances will be open to all runners, joggers and walkers and there will be a time-chip for everyone registered. All participants will receive water, fruit and health bars once they cross the finish line. Online entry costs €20 for each run, while entry on the day costs €25. All online registrations are guaranteed to receive a Jog For Jockeys t-shirt and a quantity of t-shirts and baseball caps will be distributed on the day. For this year’s team competition, runners can enter a team of five for €100, with the three best times to count. The team first prize for each race is entry to the Curragh or Punchestown for 30 people with access to a private suite for the day and a jockey to provide tips before racing. Prizes for overall first, second and third places in male and female categories for both runs will be announced closer to the event. “Both the 5km and 10km will be held in the morning before the Juddmonte Beresford Stakes, which we hope will encourage more industry people to come along and support us. This is an excellent day out for groups of friends and we expect studs, yards, local businesses and running clubs to turn out,” said Audrey. Registration is available on the website www.jogforjockeys.ie and sponsorship cards are available online and from reception in Horse Racing Ireland at Ballymany, the Curragh, Co. Kildare. Start time for 10km run is 11am and the 5km runners will begin at 12pm.
