Expert Speakers welcomes you to Marathon Talk!!!!! Talk 1 25/06/13 Beginning The Journey!!!!!! (All you need to get your training going the right way)
Talk 2 03/09/13 Journeys End, 8 Weeks out!!!!! (Learn the essentials for the long run, the last few weeks and nutrition etc)

Whether you’re thinking of doing your first marathon or looking for tips on how to improve your last Marathon time, this talk series should not be missed by anyone interested in marathon running. The speakers will enlighten you on the many aspects of endurance running, sharing their experiences in a most practical way during this unusual assembly of speakers from Novice, Experienced & Elite at the distance. Open your eyes to the discipline of endurance running, the training, the wall and the myths associated with the king of all racing distances that is “The Marathon”. Look into the abyss and begin to understand the fascination that people have with endurance running and in particular the marathon distance. Both evening’s programs are designed specifically for those thinking of attempting their first Marathon or those trying to improve their time toward the elusive sub 3hr mark. The 2nd talk in the series will take place in September entitled “Journeys End, 8 weeks out”. TALK 1
Beginning The Journey!!!!!!

Elite Marathoner Maria McCambridge (DSDAC)
Current National Marathon Champion 2.35.28(PB) 28/10/2012. Holder of 16 National Endurance Titles, having represented Ireland in 5,000mt at 2004 Athens Olympics Maria will discuss her training patterns and experience in running & winning the Irish National Marathon & her experience at Olympic level.

Lactate Threshold & Vo2max Testing, Romain Denis (UCD)*
Sport scientist from the UCD High Performance Laboratory, Romain’s presentation will be about the advantages of lactate threshold – heart rate testing for all ability athletes prior to commencing a marathon training program. This will be of interest to all level considering the marathon.

Strength & Conditioning Peter Mathews (DSDAC)*
Current National Masters Cross Country Champion, Holder of 10 National title’s, National Senior 3 Time Cross Country Champion. Pete is fulltime strength & conditioning coach & sports massage therapist, specialising in strength training & injury prevention for runners. He will display the benefits of strength, conditioning & massage for long distance runners. (We suggest you attend in Gym attire, changing rooms available)

1st Timer Marathoner, Annette Kehoe (DSDAC)*
First marathon outing in DCM 2011. 4.06.21 (F45), 3rd F40 Connemara International
½ Marathon 2012. Annette will share her 1st time experiences of doing DCM in 2011. She will chat about her journey from once she decided to do the marathon, organising her training slots while working & raising a family. (Very popular speaker 2012 Marathon Talk 26.2)

Practical Pacing, Olwyn Dunne (Crusaders AC)*
Current National 50km Champion, Pacer in DCM 2012 of the 4.15 group, Olwyn will talk about her endurance journey having only began running 5 years ago aged 42!!!!. She will share experiences with endurance running and how she trains with different paces and then applies this into her marathon event.

Marathon Training Schedules, Declan Ryan (DSDAC Coach)
Declan will discuss practical training schedules for the Novice & Improver. He will share his observations of coaching runners towards the Marathon and the mistakes himself and others typically have made with their training program selection & implementation. You will also be given proven training schedules for your training.
Followed by Questions & Answers session with the speakers.

Dundrum South Dublin Athletic Club is proud to present our 2nd annual Marathon Talk 26.2 series.
You’re well into the business end of your training now for your autumn marathon, you’re beginning to discuss things you’ve never considered before, like gels and swells! In the second part of our talk series we’ll dispel some of the idle talking and gossip that runners typically get into. The focus of our attention in this session turns towards the practical application of your training to the task ahead. We equip the attendee with the science and the experience at this vital time in marathon preparation. Learn from the expert panel assembled; submerge yourself in an evening of Marathon Talk!!!
DCU Athletics Academy Director, Enda Fitzpatrick
Without doubt one of the most respected endurance coaches in Ireland, Enda will thrill us with his extensive knowledge about how he prepares the elites for the marathon. What they do in the weeks leading up to the race,
how they prepare pre race. This will be an eye opener for even the savviest marathoner. Having coached National marathon winners and Olympians, sit back and be enthralled by Endas endless stories about endurance running.

Strength & Conditioning, Evan Scully (DSDAC)*
Evan is a fulltime Strength & Conditioning Coach & Sports Therapist & Acupuncturist, who has worked on over 20 Olympians & 6 Olympic Champions. He will be just back from a summer spent with the Nike project endurance group as Head Therapist as they have made they’re way around the diamond league track series in Europe. Learn the exercises that you “should” & the greats “do” do to prepare before major races. (We suggest you attend in Gym attire, changing rooms available)

Marathon Nutrition, Rosie Daniel (Coaching Ireland)*
Recognised by the endurance running community in Ireland, as the Sports Scientist with the knowledge that marries science and application into a workable formula. Rosie has been lead Nutritionist on AAI High Performance warm weather training camps in Portugal, putting athletes through a daily testing program of hydration and nutrition teaching them its importance. She will share some winning hydration & nutrition secrets for the marathon to have you correctly fuelled in training, before & during your race.

A Word from the Pacer, Fergal McDonnell*
Multiple Ironman® finisher, and marathon pacer – a hardened participant at the endurance discipline. Pacing the 4.30 DCM group the last few years, he will relate to us the key to pacing your Marathon, based on your training to date, what wins and what bins in terms of pacing. (Very Popular Speaker from 2012 Marathon Talk 26.2)

Footwear Selection, Mick Hynes (Elverys Sport)*
Mick is one of Elverys most experienced Gait Specialists and will provide a “non-branded” discussion on the all important footwear selection for the long road ahead. He will discuss moving to minimalist, suitable training shoes and the all important race day footwear selection. Most importantly he will guide us what not to do.

In The Long Run, Declan Ryan (Coach DSD)
With most training schedules having their 1st 20 miler fast approaching, learn how to approach these long runs, the dos and don’ts of marathon preparation for the final weeks towards your race. Having coached many novice & improvers towards better marathon times, Declan will show you how to approximate the finishing time your capable of, sharing all important strategies for these final weeks as the Marathon approaches.
