Young Irish Swimmers Impress at National Age Group Championships

Swimming: Young Irish Swimmers Impress at National Age Group Championships Swim Ireland Irish Age Group Division 1 Championships continued today Saturday at the National Aquatic Centre. Aer Lingus swimmer Conor Turner continued his fine form from yesterday taking gold in the boys 15 years old 400m Individual Medley in a time of 4:43.99. Cormorant swimmer Ben Griffin (4:57.77) won the boys 14 years old event.

 

 

 

Sarah Kelly of Comans SC Roscommon had an excellent swim in the girls 11/12 100m Butterfly final finishing in a time of 1:05.47 which was overall the fastest time of the girls 100m Butterfly finals today which included the 13 and 14 year old girls, Clodagh Flood from Tallaght Swim Team placed second in the final with another excellent swim finishing in a time of 1:07.49 ahead of Caitlin Dully (1:13.65) Athlone SC who took third.  Kelly also took gold in the girls 11/12 400m Freestyle event.

In today’s relay events Athlone SC took gold in the girls 11/12 200m Freestyle event in a time of 2:05.76, followed by Tallaght ST (2:06.41) and Lisburn City SC (2:06.81).  In the girls 13 years old event Templeogue SC (1:56.50) touched in in first place just ahead of Bangor SC (1.57.09) and Galway SC (1:58.07).

The final event of this evening’s session was the boys and girls 100m Freestyle finals.  In the girls 11/12 year olds Sarah Kelly took home her 3rd gold of the day clocking a time of 1:02.96 Ciara McNevin (1:02.24) Longford SC touched first in the 13 year olds event as did Rachel Masson (59.71) of Aberdeenshire SC in the 14 year olds.

Swim Ireland President Brian Fallon was on hand for the finals session today to present to all of the medalists.
