Seb’s COPE Triathlon Training Sessions on the Prom

Meet 3 A mighty team of 17 were out for yesterday’s weekly COPE Galway triathlon training in Salthill. Although some had come in their wetsuits, Seb decided to change things around a bit and told us we’d be going cycling first. For those who had the clip pedals, it was on with the shoes and then it was away towards Blackrock with us. We did about 35 minutes on the bike, getting used to cycling with traffic and also signalling at roundabouts. Following this we had a few practice runs of the bike transition and then the runners were pulled on.

We headed over to the green area opposite Leisureland where Seb tested us on the hills and steps (all the while flying around us as if it wasn’t costing him a breath!) for another 15 minutes. A struggle into the wetsuits ensued and then to the water we went. The cold sea literally took your breath away (as the newcomers will testify to!) but a quick 100/150 strokes out meant we weren’t hanging around for long.
The session concluded at around 9.30 and judging by the chatting going on after…I think we might just be getting into the swing of this!
