Olympians Bound for Loughrea Grey lake 10k

Loughrea “Grey Lake” 10k None This Sunday 29th September sees the return of Loughrea Athletic clubs annual “Grey Lake” 10k Road Race.
Last year a huge crowd gathered in Loughrea for this event which is growing from strength to strength. Loughrea AC is hoping for a strong turnout again for this year’s race and can confirm that London 2012 Olympic athlete Freya Ross (nee Murray) will once again be on the starting line. As part of Team GB Ross competed in the marathon event with a personal best of 2hrs 28mins 12secs.
Noel Berkeley will also be taking part who competed at the Barcelona Olympics.With a personal best of 28mins 11secs for 10km he will surely burn up the roads in Loughrea this weekend.
The club is urging everyone to take part as this is a great opportunity for all levels to run with our “Olympians”.
This year the club also celebrates 45 years of athletics. The club has a great history with athletics in the region with members competing in both national and international events. Every year the club is grateful for the participation from all the neighbouring clubs as well as the many locals who decide to take on the challenge of this famous race.
The day has something for all the family with more than 500 children taking part in the junior fun run last year. The fun run will see children of all ages running/walking the 1km route through the streets of Loughrea.

The junior race starts at 1pm with the senior race under way at 2pm and entries will be taken on the day. The race is AAI approved and chip timing will be in operation.
