Less than ten days left to register for the first ever Dingle Marathon Tuesday, 11th August, 2009 – Register today to run the inaugural Dingle Marathon for Barnardos and make a bit of history by being amongst the first to tackle this exciting new running event in Ireland’s most scenic marathon course. Taking part in this stunning event also offers runners the chance to make a difference for vulnerable children across Ireland. The first ever Dingle Marathon takes place on Saturday, 12th September and registration closes on 20th August so runners have less than ten days to sign up and ensure they don’t miss out on this historical run. Participants can register on www.dinglemarathon.ie and can sign up to run for Barnardos by contacting the fundraising team on 01 7080480, emailing [email protected] or texting JOG to 51444.
The timing of the Dingle Marathon makes it a perfect training race for those preparing for the annual Dublin City Marathon on the 26th October. Participants have the option of completing a half marathon or undertaking the challenge of the full marathon distance of 26 miles around the Dingle peninsula. The half marathon is a fantastic option for anyone who is pushing to make the full run in Dublin at the end of October. Hundreds of runners from all over Ireland and further afield have already registered, with preparation for the event in full swing.

Dingle is a fantastic venue for the marathon and makes for an enticing weekend away with friends, colleagues or family. The run kicks off at 9am on Saturday and is followed by a pasta party for the runners and their supporters. Dingle has plenty to offer visitors; spectacular coastal scenery, a rich tradition of music, craic and culture and of course no visit is complete without a trip to see Fungi the dolphin. Dingle has been voted among the top 100 tourist destinations in the world by travel review website, Trip Advisor.

Barnardos has been selected as the National Charity of choice for the Dingle Marathon and runners are urged to get more return for their mileage by fundraising for the children’s charity. All money raised will go directly to fund the work that Barnardos does with children and families throughout Ireland. Barnardos will send all runners a marathon pack including t-shirt and sponsorship forms to ensure they can go the distance.

Over 2,000 runners and walkers are expected to line up on Saturday, 12th September and contest the challenging course of the half and full marathons through the spectacular scenery of the Dingle peninsula.
