from Donore Harriers website Just one week after taking part in the National Juniors in Santry John Travers ran a much improved race last weekend to finish 2nd in the Senior Boys All Ireland Schools Cross Country Championships. The race was held in the grounds of Jordanstown University near Belfast. John ran a competitive race making life difficult for the eventual winner James O’Hare finishing 17 secs behind him in 21.19 and ahead of many of those that beat him the week previously.

Now in his first year at Inchicore Vocational School John was delighted with the result coming at the end of a season that he knows was preceded by some below par performances. Congratulations John, looking forward to seeing some continued improvement into the track season.

Other Donore athletes taking part included the ever improving Lee Van Haeften who finished 12th in the Senior Boys race whilst brother Max finished 27th in the Inter Boys. Newcomer Kevin Cheidui ran an excellent race to finish 17th in the Junior Boys.

The Inter Varsities Cross country championships were held in conjunction with the schools’ event. Eoin Rowan (DCU) was 16th and Mark Dooley ( DCU) was 19th.

Meanwhile the first weekend of the Dublin Indoor Juvenile Championships kicked off in Santry and there was a brilliant display by Donore youngsters. 43 athletes competed for Donore. In total 19 individual medals were won across sprints, hurdles, high jump, long jump and shot putt and 3 team relay medals. In addition many other athletes posted improved personal bests.

The Annual migration to Ballycotton also took place over the weekend with the Ballycotton 10 taking place on the Sunday. Well done to the Donore contingent of 20 who took part and congratulations to Joe Rankin 1st Donore athlete home in 63.48 and 2nd over 55. Congratulations also to Betty Kehoe on winning the pot for the most accurate prediction of her time!
