Congratulations on taking part in what turned out to be a wonderful race and day in Malahide Castle on the 1st of March. Thanks to everyone that participated and made it so enjoyable. The smiles, enjoyment and enthusiasm of everyone there on the day really captured everything John Davis brought to the sport and was a fantastic way to remember him. Special congratulations to our top 3 men and women, with Elena Maslova beating Karen McLoughlin and Denise McGrath into 2nd and 3rd in the ladies race and Davey Byrne getting the better of Garrett Coughlan and Niall Coppinger in the mens race that came down to a three man sprint finish. Great racing!
Also, a huge amount of money was raised on the day in sponsorship, with special mentions to James Curran who managed to raise €300, and also to Rhona Duffy who raised €400 for the day. Having undergone treatment for cancer last year and getting the all clear a few months back, Rhona started running and last Saturday was her first ever race.
In total we have raised over €6,000 for the Irish Cancer Society with still some sponsorship to collect, so thanks again to everyone that supported what will hopefully be the first of many John Davis Malahide Castle events over the years. Special mention must go to a great team of volunteers that made sure everything ran smoothly, Clare, Claire, Rory and Rory (not typos…) at registration and in charge of volunteers, Niall, Niall (not a typo again…) and Tadgh at the line and also Johanna, Ross, Greg, Oscar, Tom, Jane, Alexi, Judy, Jill, Stephen, Lizzy, Niamh and Mick, and everyone else that chipped in to the day. Also, Ditch from TI that gave up his time to referee the race, thanks a lot.
