SUMMARY:Half on the Head (Kerryhead Half Marathon and 10k)
DESCRIPTION:The Half on the Head course map and elevation is outlined below. You can also view a Garmin interactive view of the proposed route. \nThe Half on the Head follows a wonderfully scenic course from Ballyheigue Village right around the Kerryhead loop before ending up back at the start point. The 13.1 mile run takes you along one of the most unspoilt portions of the Wild Atlantic Way. Run beside the Shannon Estuary with views across the river mouth to the coast of Clare. Glancing back you will see the rugged Kerry coastline stretching to the town of Ballybunion. You might even catch a glimpse of the fabled Cliffs of Dooneen. Upon rounding the point of Kerryhead you will experience the magnificent panorama of Tralee Bay with Mount Brandon and the Maherees as a backdrop. Further along you have stunning views of the coastline stretching from Ballyheigue beach to Banna and Fenit with Blennerville Windmill in the distance. The first half of the course meanders gradually uphill before levelling out at the point of Kerryhead and then beginning a steeper decent back towards the village. Visit our BLOG for details on how best to tackle the route. \nThere are three water stations on the Half Marathon Route (at roughly the 3.5 mile\, 7 mile and 10 mile markers). There are two toilet stops (At the two schools by the 2 mile and 10 miles markers). \nThe 10K route follows the first 5k of the Half Marathon route. Just after the water stop It makes its way back towards Kerryhead before a descent to the cliff road and a run alongside the sea to the finish. View our 10k Route Map \nCheck out our Mile by Mile Story Map of the Route View Story Map \n \nWhat time does the race start?\n\nThe Half Marathon starts at 11am. (walkers start at 10am). the start line is at the beach car park.\nThe 10km starts at 11:15am from outside Mary Caseys shop which is about half way down the main street.. \nA race briefing for both races will take place at 10:50am at the Half Marathon starting line. \n

SUMMARY:Tour de Burren
DESCRIPTION:GEARING UP FOR THE 16TH TOUR DE BURREN\nThe annual Tour de Burren will take place in the picturesque village of Ballyvaughan\, County Clare located at the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way\, on Saturday 20th June 2020. \nIt’s time to oil the brakes\, pump up the wheels and get a few miles on the legs for the 16th annual Tour de Burren Cycle on June 20\, 2020. \nTruly a local event organised by the Burren Cycling Club\, the cycle will bring 1\,000 regular and would-be riders out into the beautiful landscape of the Burren National Park in County Clare. Can there be a better way to engage with our awe-inspiring scenery than to ride along the Wild Atlantic Way on two wheels? And with excellent signage on the route as well as an army of marshals\, participants feel safe and relaxed so they enjoy the spin. \n  \n \nCYCLE ROUTES\nTwo main routes start in Ballyvaughan and bring cyclists through the Burren Geopark\, past Fr Ted’s House and back home along the coast road which forms part of the Wild Atlantic Way. The Burning Burren 130km route starts at 9am\, while the Burren Heart 100km route starts an hour later at 10am.\nBoth routes meet at Kilnaboy Community Hall for the famous food stop\, which is worth the cycling effort to get there. Sandwiches including the famous brown bread and smoked salmon\, cakes including strawberry cheesecake and apple tart\, biscuits and endless supply of tea and coffee await the riders who’ll get to chat and compare stats (or aches). In fact\, the Tour de Burren food stop is nearly as famous as the cycle itself… part of the Tour de Burren challenge lies in getting up on the bike after all the cheesecake. \nAnd of course\, we haven’t forgotten cycling families – the Family Loop takes off at 11am. We’re hoping to see more mini cyclists than ever on June 20. \nENTRY FEES\nThis year\, we’re reducing the entry fee with a special early bird rate of €30 for the first 200 entries\, €35 for the next 300 and €40 for the final 500 participants. So get in gear and sign up!\nAlong with the reduced entry fee\, everybody receives a Tour de Burren beanie hat which they can pick up on signing in. Our beanies are sure to complement the Tour de Burren fashion collection which entrants have picked up over the years!\nBy the way\, did we mention the whipped ’99 ice cream at the end of the cycle…\nTo enter the Tour de Burren and for all other information\, please visit www.tourdeburren.com \nClick Here to Register today.\n

SUMMARY:RunBallyBunion Virtual 10K
DESCRIPTION:Pre-Covid 19. The RunBallybunion Half Marathon and 10km Road Race is blessed with a unique course route that winds through the north Kerry vistas along the Wild Atlantic Way\, competing in Ballybunion Half Marathon and 10km road race is an experience you will never forget. While challenging hills are interspersed along the route\, the scenic views atop each and every one of them are enough to motivate each climb. \nBallybunion Half Marathon and 10km road race simultaneously caters to the most competitive of racers and the most casual of walkers\, motivating every competitor to achieve their personal best. \nHowever with current Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic still affecting all of Irish life\, we have have had to take the unfortunate decision to postpone the normal Half Marathon & 10KM Road Race from this year to Easter Saturday\, April 3rd\, 2021. \nIn its place we are hosting a Virtual 10km on Saturday June 27th. \nWhilst the postponement of the physical event is a disappointment we all share\, we are still very determined to support the fantastic work the Ballybunion Sea & Cliff Rescue continue to do\, as well as raise much needed funds to support the fantastic Frontline Medical Staff. \nThe Virtual 10KM run will take place on Saturday 27th – and we hope you will be able to get out and support us in your own locality and you can log and share your own personal times here too. \nAll officially registered entrants (via eventmaster) to the virtual 10km will receive a medal and t-shirt. These will be sent out to all virtual registrants after the event. \nWe hope you can take part and look forward to you all sharing your times with us here on myrunresults.com \nThank you. \nJohn & Joan O’Connor\, RunBallybunion.
