SUMMARY:Howl at the Moon
DESCRIPTION:WHERE: GALWAY WIND PARK\, SHANAPHEASTEEN ROAD\, OUGHTERARD\, CO. GALWAY\n(6KM SOUTH-WEST OF OUGHTERARD)\nJoin us for a unique opportunity to take a 9k or 17km night walk along the forest tracks and walking paths through the Galway Windpark under the light of a full moon. Organised with support from Coillte and SSE Ireland\, proceeds from this event will be used to support Galway Mountain Rescue teams long term objective of constructing a dedicated mountain rescue base. \nThe full route is 17.1km long with an altitude gain of 384m. The shorter option (the northern half of the full Fig-8 route) is 9km with an altitude gain of 185m. \nParticipants will be briefed on the walk and will be given a copy of the Walk Route Map. Participants can opt to walk with one of the organised groups which will each be led by a member of Galway MRT or they can choose to follow the route independently with their own friends/family. DESCRIPTION:This year Corofin Athletics Club\, Co. Galway are offering two options for their annual road race\, the usual 8k race following the same route as recent years\, and a new 10 Mile route. The 8k route is very flat\, while the 10-mile route has some hills but nothing too steep or taxing! \nThe 10 Mile race will start at 9.00am\, with the 8k race starting at 9.30am. Race entrants for both races are asked to assemble at the local Community Centre (Dr Duggan Hall) 15 mins prior to the start of their chosen race. \nBoth race routes have been accurately measured and permitted by Athletics Ireland. Red Tag Timing will provide chip timing for both races. \nFirst\, second and third place prizes will be awarded for men and women in each race\, plus multiple age category winners. \nFacilities\nLimited changing facilities will be available at the Community Centre and (non-valuable) items such as tracksuit tops etc. can be left there. Toilet facilities will be available in the Community Centre and post-race refreshments will also be served there. Additional toilets will be available in adjacent facilities. Hydration stations will be provided on both routes. \nRegistration\nEntry for the 8k race is €15 online and €20 on the day. Entry for the 10 Mile race is €20 online and €25 on the day. Registration will be open on the Saturday evening (2nd) between 5pm to 7pm and on the morn of the race from 7.30am till 8.30am in the Community Centre where race packs will be available. \nRace Routes\nThe 10 Mile race starts in Corofin Village itself and continues east of the village\, crossing the Tuam-Athenry Road at the Palm Tree pub\, east in the general direction of Ballyglunin\, looping around at Garra\, continuing to Ballinstack\, crossing the Tuam-Athenry Road at the Gills pub and back to the finish line at the Community Centre in Corofin village. \n \nThe 8k race starts at An Dunan just west of Corofin Village. The race follows a loop around Cummer\, via St. Colman’s National School\, Pollinore\, Curry and Curryoughter. A left turn is taken at the crossroad for the last stretch back to the finish line at the Community Centre in Corofin village. \n \nDirections to Corofin\nThe village of Corofin is located south of Tuam. It is easily accessed from the N84 (Galway to Tuam) road\, previously called the N17\, or from the R347 (Athenry to Tuam) road. \nT-shirts for the first 200 registered.

DESCRIPTION:  \nOn Saturday 9th November 2019 at 10am \nVenue: Peterswell Village\, Co Galway \nThis is our 6th year running this event which has been organised in memory of our dear friend Mary Prendergast who passed away on 2nd January 2014 aged 42 years. Mary was a member of our local South Galway Athletics club and ran the Dublin City Marathon with us in 2004. Mary and Paddy got married in 2004 and were blessed to have three children Carlyn\, Roslyn and Zach. Baby Zach passed away when he was only one week old on June 4th 2012. Mary was diagnosed with cancer five months after loss of her baby Zach. Her courage and dignity during her battle with breast cancer was inspiring to all who knew her. \nAll proceeds from this fundraising event will go to two local charities: Galway Hospice and Hand in Hand Children’s Cancer Charity. Hand in Hand is a non-profit organisation based in Galway since 2006 that supports families who are affected by childhood cancer throughout Ireland. Their aim is to alleviate some of the stress\, anxiety and practical difficulties faced by families who have a child undergoing treatment for cancer\, through the provision of practical (laundry\, childcare\, domestic cleaning and family meals) and emotional support. We are welcoming all athletes\, runners\, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities to attend this memorial event. \nRegistration for the event can be done on Run Ireland.
