DESCRIPTION:The 9th Annual Mayo AC Summer 5k Series is underway. Mayo AC are delighted once again to have their popular series sponsored by Vodafone C&C Cellular who also support the Club League.  \nThe five races in the series take place at different locations on successive Tuesday evenings at 8pm.  \nAll races have Athletics Ireland permits. SUMMARY:Rathlee NS 5 & 10k
DESCRIPTION:The annual Rathlee N.S. Run and Walk takes place this year on Saturday 16th June at 2pm.  Now in its 4th year\, the course has been transformed this year to incorporate a 10km run together with the traditional 5km route.  Taking in some of the most scenic areas of West Sligo\, the run is always popular with both seasoned runners and beginners. \nThe race starts and finishes overlooking Kilalla Bay at the picturesque Browne’s of Pullaheeney.  The 5km route is reasonably flat with relatively few undulations which is ideal for walkers and runners alike.  The new 10km route departs Pullaheeney and moves away from the coast before joining The Wild Atlantic Way and making its way past the National School in Rathlee.  The route then snakes its way through the local countryside passing Rathlee Tower before making its way to the coast and finishing back at Pullaheeney. \nPrizes will be given to 1st\, 2nd and 3rd in both the 5km and 10km runs. \nAll funds raised go directly to improvement works at Rathlee National School.

SUMMARY:Clifden Lifeboat 10k Run
DESCRIPTION:The annual Clifden Lifeboat 10k run\, which was originaly held in September every year\, has now moved to a new month! Held in memory of 18yr old Mickey Mullen who died in 2004 when the MVF St Oliver sank in bad weather\, it has become popular with both serious and leisure runners. The race starts and finishes in Clifden\, Co Galway and will bring you up the Sky Road which is one of the most scenic areas in Connemara. \nThe course is officially measured and as in previous years AAI approval will be applied for. Individuals and teams of runners\, walkers\, joggers and stargglers of all abilities are welcome\, and there are prize categories to suit everyone. \nAll funds raised go to the Clifden RNLI.  \nMedals will be given to all finishers. Individuals or teams of 3 people are welcome. DESCRIPTION:Following on from the successes of 2016 and 2017\, the 2018 Nenagh Lions Club Try a Tri will take place in glorious sunshine on Saturday 9th June. \nThe Try a Tri\, in association with Nenagh Lions Club is geared especially towards those who are completely new to triathlons\, those with just a basic level of fitness\, who simply enjoy a challenge and a bit of fun. The event consists of a short swim (10 lengths/250m) of Nenagh Swimming Pool (at your own pace)\, followed by a 10km cycle and a 3km run or walk. Just to spice things up for those who would like a stronger challenge we are also offering the option of a Sprint Tri. (30 length/750m swim\, 20km cycle\, 5 km run\, over 16’s only). Both events are offered in a range of different formats: individual adult\, u-18\, family of 4\, team and relay so there is something for everyone. SUMMARY:Portumna Forest Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Portumna is a small town in the heart of rural Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. The name Portumna comes from the Irish word Port Omna\, meaning the landing place of the oak tree. So not surprisingly\, perched on the edge of the quaint little town is a magnificent 450 hectacres of coniferous woodland of Scots Pine and Norway spruce. Portumna Forest Park is also home to a whole host of animals including Fallow deer and the red Squirrel. Every June\, the agility of the wild animals in their natural habitat is mimicked by the ‘best of the best’ of distance runners from all over Ireland. In recent years participants have come from all over the world in their quest to find the ultimate Ultra marathon. \nTaking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners\, crew and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment. Everyone talks a little softer and smiles a little wider. When those inevitable Irish rain showers put in their short but frequent appearances\, everyone looks up at the rain drops through the leaves and marvels at the reflections of the rainbows in the puddles – appreciating the fact that the rain had a vital role to play in providing such a luscious backdrop for the run. \nThere is of course a more practical reason that this Marathon remains one of the most popular ultra events in the country – Portumna\, whilst rural\, is also very accessible from all four corners of the country. \nBy the time nightfall descends on a summer Saturday night\, over 1\,000 competitors would have completed one of the five races on offer -100km\, 50km\, Full Marathon\, Half Marathon or 10k. The fact that runners of all ability and speed are running together turns the event into a motivational haven where training tips and running experiences are shared enroute and everyone leaves determined to move up to the next distance before returning next year. \nFor more infomation on the event click HERE

DESCRIPTION:The 9th Annual Mayo AC Summer 5k Series is underway. Mayo AC are delighted once again to have their popular series sponsored by Vodafone C&C Cellular who also support the Club League.  \nThe five races in the series take place at different locations on successive Tuesday evenings at 8pm.  \nAll races have Athletics Ireland permits.
