DESCRIPTION:Ballina AC is proud to announce that our 3rd annual 10 mile road race will take place this year on Sunday\, August 18th at 11.00am. The race will begin in Belleek in Ballina town and will take participants on a fantastic route through the picturesque Belleek Woods that runs parallel to the iconic River Moy and along part of the Monasteries of the Moy Greenway. The route is ideal for runners new to the 10 mile distance and the timing of our race fits in nicely with those training for the Dublin City Marathon or other late autumn marathons.\nBallina AC has successfully hosted a range of races from 10k to 10 miles and marathons so we can guarantee participants a well-run event. SUMMARY:Bóthar na Naomh (Cloone) Adventure Duathlon 2019
DESCRIPTION:We’re back again in 2019 for the 7th year of our adventure Duathlon. As past compeitors will confirm\, this is a duathlon race with a difference – both fun and hardship are guaranteed! We aim to provide a high standard race at a very affordable price. The race aims to attract beginner to elite racers and we also cater for families with the inclusion of a 5km Trail-run and an Under 16s 5km adventure race. The U16s race was the highlight of our event in 2018\, we over 60 children taking part (& we couldn’t get them off the water slide)! \nAll participants are also included for food and refreshments after the race and visitors have the option to eat their fill for €10. \nTruly a race to challenge the most competitive athlete and the those looking to challenge themselves…and a great way to start the bank holiday weekend! Hope to see you there again this year…bring a friend as we are aiming for 150 in the main event. We are including Chipped Timing for all the races again this year – based on feedback. SUMMARY:Seven Sisters Mountain Marathon - Ireland’s Toughest Marathon / Half
DESCRIPTION:RACE DETAILS\nThe Seven Sisters Mountain Trail Marathon is a 42k Race incorporating approximately 4\,000m (13\,000ft) of accumulative ascent; a 22k Half Marathon with 2\,000m of ascent organized by Excel Sports. The terrain consists of heathery soft ground\, sheep tracks\, and loose stone / gravel\, and follows a route similar to the Glover Trail. The route will be Marked. \nThe event takes place in Dunlewey\, Co. Donegal. Competitors will experience Donegal at its best with magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding counties. \nFULL MARATHON\nThere will be a 13 hr TIME LIMIT for this event. There will be a STRICT cut off for checkpoints along the way on the course. If you fail to make the checkpoint you will be sent on a lower course to the finish. This is in the interest of safety to all involved. \nHALF MARATHON\nThere is an 8 hr TIME LIMIT for this event. There will be timed checkpoints along the way. If you fail to make a checkpoint you will be sent on a lower course to the finish. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGPS TRACKING\nWe have teamed up with Primal Tracking to introduce Live GPS tracking to the event. Both events will be tracked live! This allows family and friends to follow you throughout the race. This is also essential for Race Organisers to monitor athletes on the mountains for safety reasons. A live page will be available on race day. \nFITNESS\nA high level of fitness is recommended. Experience in off-road running and technical terrain would be beneficial. Experience of races over Half Marathon distances would be necessary to take on this challenging event. \nWALKING\nDue to the nature of the event NO Walkers will be allowed to take part. DESCRIPTION:Back for our second year on the beautiful Sliabh Bawn in Co. Roscommon. With spectacular views amongst the wind turbines we are offering a 10k\, half marathon and a full marathon distance but the option to do a back to back. (Same distance both days) it is an off-road event with alot of rolls hills but upon completion you feel fully accomplished. \nAll finishers will receive a well designed and unique medal with an additional medal for the people who are brave enough to complete the b2b! SUMMARY:The Beer Barrel Run
DESCRIPTION:The Lacken Beer Barrel Run will take place on 22nd June in the beautiful North Mayo coastal village of Kilcummin\, Lacken. Teams of eight must somehow carry a 72kg beer barrel along a (literally) breath-taking 8.5km coastal route. There’s one rule\, the barrel must not touch the ground! \nKilcummin is best known as the scene of the famous landing in 1798 of the French General Humbert as well as its vast golden strand\, rolling sand dunes and lush green fields\, located on the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way in Co. Mayo. Now the local community wants to make it synonymous with one of the most demanding adventure races in Ireland. \nIt is up to the competitors how they carry their barrel. Only stipulations are that the carrying device must not have wheels\, and your barrel must be secured to it. \nThis fundraising event – the first of its kind in Ireland – will take place on Saturday\, June 22 at 2pm\, supported by Marc Reilly\, partner of J. SUMMARY:Portumna Forest Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Portumna is a small town in the heart of rural Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. The name Portumna comes from the Irish word Port Omna\, meaning the landing place of the oak tree. So not surprisingly\, perched on the edge of the quaint little town is a magnificent 450 hectacres of coniferous woodland of Scots Pine and Norway spruce. Portumna Forest Park is also home to a whole host of animals including Fallow deer and the red Squirrel. Every June\, the agility of the wild animals in their natural habitat is mimicked by the ‘best of the best’ of distance runners from all over Ireland. In recent years participants have come from all over the world in their quest to find the ultimate Ultra marathon. \nTaking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners\, crew and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment. Everyone talks a little softer and smiles a little wider. When those inevitable Irish rain showers put in their short but frequent appearances\, everyone looks up at the rain drops through the leaves and marvels at the reflections of the rainbows in the puddles – appreciating the fact that the rain had a vital role to play in providing such a luscious backdrop for the run. \nThere is of course a more practical reason that this Marathon remains one of the most popular ultra events in the country – Portumna\, whilst rural\, is also very accessible from all four corners of the country. \nBy the time nightfall descends on a summer Saturday night\, over 1\,000 competitors would have completed one of the five races on offer -100km\, 50km\, Full Marathon\, Half Marathon or 10k. DESCRIPTION:The elite category known as the “7 Steps ” covers a distance of 65km comprising of Running\, Kayaking and Cycling. \nAs athletes safety and enjoyment is top of our priority\, please be aware the 7 Steps is tough and challenging and best suited to someone who is an active adventure racer. \nThe “5 Steps” is a shorter 45km course of Running\, Kayaking and Cycling.\nThe “3 Steps” is a Duathalon event of 25km run and cycle course.\nYou can also take the 1st step towards adventure racing by doing the 15km walk/run which forms part of the 3 step route.

A fully way marked route including rough mountainside\, single track and tarred road.
