DESCRIPTION:WHERE: GALWAY WIND PARK\, SHANAPHEASTEEN ROAD\, OUGHTERARD\, CO. GALWAY\n(6KM SOUTH-WEST OF OUGHTERARD)\nJoin us for a unique opportunity to take a 9k or 17km night walk along the forest tracks and walking paths through the Galway Windpark under the light of a full moon. Organised with support from Coillte and SSE Ireland\, proceeds from this event will be used to support Galway Mountain Rescue teams long term objective of constructing a dedicated mountain rescue base. \nThe full route is 17.1km long with an altitude gain of 384m. The shorter option (the northern half of the full Fig-8 route) is 9km with an altitude gain of 185m. \nParticipants will be briefed on the walk and will be given a copy of the Walk Route Map. Participants can opt to walk with one of the organised groups which will each be led by a member of Galway MRT or they can choose to follow the route independently with their own friends/family. Race around some of Ireland’s most iconic waterways\, kayak on majestic Lough Derg and run along the banks of the mighty Shannon. Cycle through country roads\, quaint villages and sprawling forests. \nFor the first time Quest will take place on the banks of Lough Derg on Saturday 14th September 2019. This exciting\, brand-new event will see participants start and finish their event in Ballina and run\, cycle and kayak their way around Lough Derg taking in locations like Tonn Toinne\, Garrykennedy\, Ballycuggaran and Moylussa. \nThere will be three routes to choose from for participants\, the 22km ‘Challenge’ route\, the 57km ‘Sport’ route and the 69km ‘Expert’ route. There’s a route to suit all levels of ability – by way of a guide for those new to the sport\, the level of fitness required to compete in the ‘Challenge’ is similar required to run a 10km race.

DESCRIPTION:We’re back again in 2019 for the 7th year of our adventure Duathlon. As past compeitors will confirm\, this is a duathlon race with a difference – both fun and hardship are guaranteed! We aim to provide a high standard race at a very affordable price. The race aims to attract beginner to elite racers and we also cater for families with the inclusion of a 5km Trail-run and an Under 16s 5km adventure race. The U16s race was the highlight of our event in 2018\, we over 60 children taking part (& we couldn’t get them off the water slide)! \nAll participants are also included for food and refreshments after the race and visitors have the option to eat their fill for €10. \nTruly a race to challenge the most competitive athlete and the those looking to challenge themselves…and a great way to start the bank holiday weekend! SUMMARY:Seven Sisters Mountain Marathon - Ireland’s Toughest Marathon / Half
DESCRIPTION:RACE DETAILS\nThe Seven Sisters Mountain Trail Marathon is a 42k Race incorporating approximately 4\,000m (13\,000ft) of accumulative ascent; a 22k Half Marathon with 2\,000m of ascent organized by Excel Sports. The terrain consists of heathery soft ground\, sheep tracks\, and loose stone / gravel\, and follows a route similar to the Glover Trail. The route will be Marked. \nThe event takes place in Dunlewey\, Co. Donegal. Competitors will experience Donegal at its best with magnificent views of the Atlantic Ocean and surrounding counties. \nFULL MARATHON\nThere will be a 13 hr TIME LIMIT for this event. There will be a STRICT cut off for checkpoints along the way on the course. If you fail to make the checkpoint you will be sent on a lower course to the finish. This is in the interest of safety to all involved. \nHALF MARATHON\nThere is an 8 hr TIME LIMIT for this event. There will be timed checkpoints along the way. If you fail to make a checkpoint you will be sent on a lower course to the finish. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nGPS TRACKING\nWe have teamed up with Primal Tracking to introduce Live GPS tracking to the event. Both events will be tracked live! This allows family and friends to follow you throughout the race. This is also essential for Race Organisers to monitor athletes on the mountains for safety reasons. A live page will be available on race day. \nFITNESS\nA high level of fitness is recommended. Experience in off-road running and technical terrain would be beneficial. Experience of races over Half Marathon distances would be necessary to take on this challenging event. \nWALKING\nDue to the nature of the event NO Walkers will be allowed to take part. SUMMARY:The Beer Barrel Run
DESCRIPTION:The Lacken Beer Barrel Run will take place on 22nd June in the beautiful North Mayo coastal village of Kilcummin\, Lacken. Teams of eight must somehow carry a 72kg beer barrel along a (literally) breath-taking 8.5km coastal route. There’s one rule\, the barrel must not touch the ground! \nKilcummin is best known as the scene of the famous landing in 1798 of the French General Humbert as well as its vast golden strand\, rolling sand dunes and lush green fields\, located on the heart of the Wild Atlantic Way in Co. Mayo. Now the local community wants to make it synonymous with one of the most demanding adventure races in Ireland. \nIt is up to the competitors how they carry their barrel. Only stipulations are that the carrying device must not have wheels\, and your barrel must be secured to it. \nThis fundraising event – the first of its kind in Ireland – will take place on Saturday\, June 22 at 2pm\, supported by Marc Reilly\, partner of J. SUMMARY:Portumna Forest Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Portumna is a small town in the heart of rural Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. The name Portumna comes from the Irish word Port Omna\, meaning the landing place of the oak tree. So not surprisingly\, perched on the edge of the quaint little town is a magnificent 450 hectacres of coniferous woodland of Scots Pine and Norway spruce. Portumna Forest Park is also home to a whole host of animals including Fallow deer and the red Squirrel. Every June\, the agility of the wild animals in their natural habitat is mimicked by the ‘best of the best’ of distance runners from all over Ireland. In recent years participants have come from all over the world in their quest to find the ultimate Ultra marathon. \nTaking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners\, crew and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment. Everyone talks a little softer and smiles a little wider. When those inevitable Irish rain showers put in their short but frequent appearances\, everyone looks up at the rain drops through the leaves and marvels at the reflections of the rainbows in the puddles – appreciating the fact that the rain had a vital role to play in providing such a luscious backdrop for the run. \nThere is of course a more practical reason that this Marathon remains one of the most popular ultra events in the country – Portumna\, whilst rural\, is also very accessible from all four corners of the country. \nBy the time nightfall descends on a summer Saturday night\, over 1\,000 competitors would have completed one of the five races on offer -100km\, 50km\, Full Marathon\, Half Marathon or 10k. The fact that runners of all ability and speed are running together turns the event into a motivational haven where training tips and running experiences are shared enroute and everyone leaves determined to move up to the next distance before returning next year. \nFor more infomation on the event click HERE
