SUMMARY:Tri Talking Sport 12 Days of Christmas Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Christmas is fast approaching and although this year might be different to other years due to Covid19\, it will still be a time when we get busy with festive activities from Christmas shopping to decorating the tree\, watching movies to catching up with friends and family\, albeit maybe virtually for the most part. \nWhilst this year might see more zoom parties than mulled wine receptions more Christmas coffees outside than dinner parties inside there will be a million and one excuses for the reduction in physical activity.  There is no doubt it is a busy time of year and with colder weather the motivation to move can really hit an all time low\, so much so that we can often let our let our fitness decrease and our waistlines increase through lack of movement and exercise during December. \nBut….. if you need some inspiration\, motivation or just some accountability to get you moving this December you can sign up now to the Tri Talking Sport 12 Days of Christmas Challenge kicking off on December 1st \nThe Challenge \nThe concept is a simple one\, commit to completing 12 hours of physical activity over the festive period from December 1st– 25th. Ideally\, this would be one hour of activity per day for 12 days\, however\, this is more about completion than competition so you can decide to complete the challenge over a variety of durations from 30 minutes to 2 hour sessions during the festive period. \nSelect any form of physical activity of choice; yoga\, pilates\, running\, walking\, swimming\, cycling\, hiking\, jogging\, fitness class or any other activity that gets you moving\, puts a smile on your face and gets the blood rushing through your veins. This free fun challenge aims to encourage you to get moving over the festive period\, providing the incentive and support to get an hour of exercise completed on at least 12 days between the 1st of December and Christmas Day\, taking time out to enjoy the session and time for yourself each day. \nAlthough the reward for the challenge is in the completion and personal satisfaction\, there will be a number of presents and treats up for grabs from Santa’s Sleigh as an incentive for participants to engage in the challenge fully.  Register for the festive fitness challenge HERE.  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Ballintotis 4 Mile Road Race 2022
DESCRIPTION:The 11th running of the Ballintotis 4 mile road race\, hosted by Ballintotis Area Community Council and held in association with East Cork AC\, will take place this year on Thursday April 21st (starting time 8pm.) The organising committee are delighted to be back again on the race calendar\, following the enforced break due to the covid pandemic in 2020 and 2021. \nIn 2010\, the first staging of the race took place and attracted 425 runners\, a figure which at that time well exceeded the organisers’ expectations. \nOur last race in 2019 which was our 10th anniversary race saw a record breaking 1240 finishers. \nThat aforementioned 2010 race got fund raising underway for Ballintotis Community Centre which has since been built and is now the hub of the race.. The event formerly took place in Castlemartyr\, but East Cork AC moved the race to Ballintotis\, which has proved a hugely popular location\, with the venue boasting in excess of 1\,000 participants on a number of occasions. The scenic 4 mile loop includes a lap of road bordering Loughaderra Lake in the closing stages. \nGreat Prize List \nAgain this year’s race offers great value for money with a very attractive prize structure overall and a full list of category prizes in all age groups (1st 2nd and 3rd) as well as the opportunity to win one of the many spot prizes on offer. \nCastlemartyr Resort will again sponsor the top prize of overnight accomodation for 2 people both the male and female winners. \nTrabolgan Holiday Village have again confirmed that they will sponsor a Family Weekend Away or Mid Week stay for both the race runner up and ladies runner up. Once more Garryvoe Hotel Leisure Centre have come on board with a magnificent prize for the third runners home\, in the shape of six months membership to their superb facility. \nAs well as the famous Ballintotis Buff again kindly sponsored by Simon Ahern of Ahern’s Centra\, J.J Coppingers’\, Midleton are again on board to help sponsor a goody bag for all finishers. \nRegistration Update \nRegistration is open on line from Friday February 4th. Registration costs 15 euro including service charge\, with the option of availing of your race number being posted out for an additional cost. \nExciting Race History \nIn the inaugural race James McCarthy took top spot with a time of 19:54. McCarthy went onto win the race a remarkable eight times in a row\, his best time being 19:23 set in 2016. Then in 2018 … a new man was on the podium as another East Cork A.C competitor Michael Harty won in style and in the process set a new course record of 19:15\, with the previous record also being broken by Sergiu Ciobanu who was runner up. Our last race in 2019 saw a new name on the roll of honour – as yet another East Cork Man – Kevin O’Brien broke the tape in a time of 20.13. \nThe entry was a remarkable 1\,170 runners in 2015. Irish Olympian Sonia O Sullivan was among those taking part that year following up on her previous visit in 2013. \nFellow Olympian Lizzy Lee from Leevale is the ladies course record holder (21:22)\, with her Irish International colleague Claire McCarthy posting the second fastest time around the course. Fiona Santry of East Cork A.C made it back to wins in the ladies race in 2019 to complete a fine double.. \nMore Information \nAnybody requiring further information on this year’s race can e-mail their query to ballintotisrace@gmail.com or call 086 8778182. . \n***Updated race info will be issued nearer the event. \nRegister Now CLICK HERE

SUMMARY:Forest Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Portumna Forest Marathon\nTaking place in Portumna Forest Park. Forest marathon has a unique course and a distance for everyone. \n10K / Half / Full / 50K / 100K \n\n\n\n\n\nTaking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically\, it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners\, crew\, and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment. \nEveryone talks a little softer and smiles a little wider. When those inevitable Irish rain showers put in their short but frequent appearances\, everyone looks up at the raindrops through the leaves and marvels at the reflections of the rainbows in the puddles – appreciating the fact that the rain had a vital role to play in providing such a luscious backdrop for the run. \n\n\n  \n  \nFor more information go to www.forestmarathon.com

SUMMARY:The Warriors Run 2022
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Strandhill Co. Sligo\, home of The Warriors Run\, one of Ireland’s toughest competitive races. \nStrandhill village is 8 kilometres west of Sligo town\, situated on the Atlantic seaboard and nestled at the foot of Knocknarea Mountain. On it’s summit (1\,070 ft)\, sits a megalithic cairn where Maeve the legendary Queen of Connaught is reputedly buried. \nEach year runners from all over Ireland (and various parts of the world) converge on Strandhill to follow in the footsteps of her ancient warriors. \nThe Warriors Run takes competitors from the Cannon Gun at the beachfront in Strandhill to the top of Knocknarea\, around Queen Maeve’s Cairn and back to the beachfront again. For the uninitiated\, a 15 Kilometre race might seem easy. Not the Warriors Run!  The race is classified as a road and hill race or multi-terrained\, so whilst approximately nine of its kilometres are on paved roads\, it is the special six kilometres in the middle\, to the top of Knocknarea that gives the race its bite. These six kilometres include a 700 foot climb through fields\, loose gravel\, unsurfaced and heather paths. At its steepest incline on the way up\, even the most professional athlete slows to a walk and then braces themselves to face the equally daunting downhill run\, back down the often slippery slopes\, even in the driest of weather. \nDespite the endurance trait of the race\, each year around 1100 runners take part in this unique event to cross the finish line at the beachfront and earn the honour of being able to say that they completed The Warriors Run. Indeed\, in 2017\, 2018 and 2019\, all competitors across the finish line\, were handsomely rewarded with a beautiful bespoke medal to celebrate their achievement. \n  \nRegister Now CLICK HERE
