SUMMARY:Portumna Forest Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Portumna is a small town in the heart of rural Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. The name Portumna comes from the Irish word Port Omna\, meaning the landing place of the oak tree. So not surprisingly\, perched on the edge of the quaint little town is a magnificent 450 hectacres of coniferous woodland of Scots Pine and Norway spruce. Portumna Forest Park is also home to a whole host of animals including Fallow deer and the red Squirrel. Every June\, the agility of the wild animals in their natural habitat is mimicked by the ‘best of the best’ of distance runners from all over Ireland. In recent years participants have come from all over the world in their quest to find the ultimate Ultra marathon. \nTaking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners\, crew and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment. Everyone talks a little softer and smiles a little wider. When those inevitable Irish rain showers put in their short but frequent appearances\, everyone looks up at the rain drops through the leaves and marvels at the reflections of the rainbows in the puddles – appreciating the fact that the rain had a vital role to play in providing such a luscious backdrop for the run. \nThere is of course a more practical reason that this Marathon remains one of the most popular ultra events in the country – Portumna\, whilst rural\, is also very accessible from all four corners of the country. \nBy the time nightfall descends on a summer Saturday night\, over 1\,000 competitors would have completed one of the five races on offer -100km\, 50km\, Full Marathon\, Half Marathon or 10k. DESCRIPTION:  \nThe RESCHEDULED Fr Micheal Mannion Annual 10K Road Race will begin in Clonbur Co Galway and follow the road towards Cong before looping back into Clonbur in a clockwise direction.The course consists of medium climbs.It will be  timed with water stops on route. Course will be marshaled and the event is supported by the local branch of The Irish Red Cross and Gardai with refreshments at the end of the race. Ample parking available. \nFirst Male and Female home will be presented with The Fr Micheal Mannion Memorial Cup. \nPrizes for 1st\,2nd\,3rd Male & Female. Also prizes for Over 60’s and under 16’s. \nAll participants will receive a T-Shirt on the day. \nFor those not wishing to run the 10K  there will be the option of a fun run/walk 5/6K on the day. \nClonbur has wonderful woodland amenities and a walk will be available there for those looking for something more leisurely on the day. \nRegistration on the day only from 10am in Clonbur Community Centre.  \nEntry fee for 10K race €20 \n Under 16’s Free. \nSpecial Guest on the day The Liam McCarthy Cup \nVoluntary Donation for fun run/walk. \nAll proceeds from the event go to the local Zambia Housing project of which Fr Micheal Mannion was an active member. This is new for 2018 and the route shows spectacular views of  an early bronze age site\, the Plassey shipwreck and  O Briens’ Castle  with the Cliffs of Moher  as a background.  The run itself is definitely no walk in the Páirc! \nTwisted 7K Road Run – Starting Time: 1.30pm. You wind your way around amazing trails seeking out unique trees along the way. The Cong area is limestone and full of underground activity. With 5 lakes to the North and the majestic Lough Corrib to the South\, Cong is the Narrowest point between these great lakes. Cong is an English version of what really is an Gaelic name ‘Cunga’ coming from the word ‘Cung’ or narrow. The effect is a multitude of caves ‘Pigeon Hole’ the Priests Cave\, Horse discovery\, Kelly’s Cave and Ballymaglancy Cave closer to Clonbur. You will walk a delightful trail twisting and turning which takes you to a fantastic view overlooking Lough Corrib. We will come home via Ashford Castle and a beautiful walk along Cong River.

DESCRIPTION:The Humbert Duathlon\, Swinford is the fifth in the Ireland West Duathlon Series and is\norganised by Swinford Triathlon Club\, who for many years have provided triathletes with\nthe opportunity to participate in one of the best Half Iron Triathlon events in the country.\nThis year the same organisers have tasked themselves in organising The Humbert Duathlon\, and in this regard\, you can be assured that we will deliver a top class event which we are confident will be a huge success. \nThe Humbert Duathlon is set on a flat course and consists of a 5km run\, 20km cycle and\n3km run and is suitable for all abilities.The start and registration take place at the Amenity Centre\, Kiltimagh Road\, Swinford from 7.45am to 9.15am on Sunday morning the 25th. There are changing rooms and showers at the Community Centre and ample competitor parking at the front and back of the Amenity Centre. \n \nRun 1 brings competitors out the Kiltimagh Road and onto the N5.  After approximately 300 metres competitors will turn right onto the Old Dump Road and travel for approximately 400 meters.  They will then exit onto the Old Castlebar Road and return to transition. \n \nThe cycle is set over a flat course.  On leaving transition\, competitors will travel onto the Old Castlebar Road and after approximately 2km\,  turn right onto the Meelick Road and down to Oldcastle and back onto the N5 at Bohola.  From Bohola the competitors will travel towards Swinford on the hard shoulder of the N5 and on reaching the 20km mark\,  turn right onto the Kiltimagh Road and back to Transition. \n \nRun 2 \nThis will consist of a 3km run which is off-road and will bring competitors around the perimeter of Swinford Golf Club.  This route is relatively flat but nonetheless\, it provides variety and will provide an interesting finish.     \nPrize Presentations \nPrizes will take place afterwards in the Amenity Park.  Time to be confirmed at a later date. \nN.B. \nPlease note that as this is a Triathlon Ireland sanctioned race\, you will require a Race Licence or a Day Licence. \n

DESCRIPTION:The inaugural Hollymount Duathlon\, on 14th January 2018\, will be the second event in the Ireland West Duathlon Series 2018. The Duathlon will consist of a 5k run\, a 19k cycle and a 3k run which will start & finish on the main street in the Village of Hollymount. \nStage 1 which is a 5k run takes participants out the Claremorris Road for 1.5K before turning left in through the local roads for 3k and returning to Hollymount via the Ballinrobe road. \nThe transition will be on the GAA pitch grounds where participants will collect their bikes for the 19k cycle. Again this 19k cycle will take participants out the Claremorris road for 4k before turning left at The Country Club pub. Stage 2 continues through the Roads of Taugheen to Peter Touhey’s pub in Newbrook with a fast 8K finish back to transition in the GAA Grounds. \nStage 3 will be a 3k run which will be one lap of the Hollymount Road Race in reverse to the finish line which will be on the main street in Hollymount Village. \nAll three stages are generally flat and suitable for athletes of all levels with exceptional times expected for the elite athletes\, however\, this duathlon also offers beginners the opportunity to kick start 2018. \nPrizes for top 3 male & female and all age categories. Also\, valuable points to be won for the Ireland West Duathlon series

DESCRIPTION:Born to Run Tralee Marathon Club are proud and excited to bring you the fourth annual Born to Run 40 Mile Ultra Marathon and second 2 person relay while introducing the first running of our 4 person relay. Taking place on Saturday July 28th in the town of Tralee\, this 40 Mile Ultra-marathon consists of ten 4 mile loops.  The course is made up of a relaxing (and flat) 1 mile river walkway (concrete) and country roads (not quiet flat in places). Each loop has two hills of approximately 0.5 miles each and have a climb of about 90 feet each. These hills are immediately followed by an equal downhill section which will be a welcome relief after the climb.
