SUMMARY:Lough Cutra Castle 10k\, Half Marathon & Marathon
DESCRIPTION:***The May event has been deferred to this new date in September due to the ongoing COVID19 situation. ** \nLough Cutra Castle in Gort is the backdrop to this action-packed weekend of triathlon racing in Gort\, Co. Galway\, hosted within the beautiful grounds of the Castle and surrounding area of stunning South Galway. \nCastle Run Series\n\nBuilding on the success of the Castle Run Series introduction in 2018\, with the Marathon\, Half Marathon and 10k will continue to take place at Lough Cutra Castle on Sunday 30th May. \nThis stunning and unique multi-terrain course will incorporate spectator friendly loops of beautiful countryside\, the Castle lake\, quaint local villages and of course Lough Cutra Castle itself. Each runner will receive a medal and will be welcomed across the finish line with a banquet of well-earned treats\, with live bands\, food stalls\, a retail area and camping at the castle making the weekend a festival of sporting achievements. \nIn addition to the Run Series events there’s a lot more on offer over the weekend to suit all athletes across a multitude of disciplines. \nCastle Swim Series\nThe swim only event provides the choice of three different distances: 5km 2.5km and 1mile (see price table below) and boasts a unique and stunning swim route in all the stunning castle lakes. \nThe swim described by many triathletes as the ‘best open water swim ever completed’ will now be open to outdoor swimmers as an event in its own right. \nOne mile leisure and family swim \nEnjoy the beautiful setting of Lough Cutra Castle at your own pace. Swim any stroke you like (breaststroke encouraged)\, swim and chat with friends as you go around. Don’t worry about how long it takes (however time limit set at 90 minutes)\, just enjoy it. Under 16’s welcome if accompanied throughout by a competent responsible adult\, however we do have a minimum age of 13. \n\nMultiSport\n\nIf the thought of completing all three disciplines of triathlon at once is holding you back from signing up to one of our events\, our multisport distances could be perfect for you! Perhaps an injury is preventing you from running\, you can’t get your hands on a bike for the summer or the idea of swimming in the lake is just too much. We have created the multisport events to allow our competitors to compete in two disciplines of your choice within our triathlons. The same stunning courses tailored to suit you! \n\n\nTriathlon Events\nAll of the triathlon races at Lough Cutra Castle kick-off by launching into an open-water swim in the lake\, transitioning to the bike route which circumnavigates Lough Cutra itself with The Half Iron Gauntlet cycle taking in the beautiful and breathtaking Burren National Park whilst the run features a mixed terrain in the stunning surroundings of the Castle. \nThe 2021 edition of the Castle Tri Series of events promises once again to be an amazing festival of triathlon & multisport with events of various distances to test those chasing a personal best and embrace those who are dipping their toes into the sport of triathlon for the very first time. \nThere are a host of junior races on offer for the aspiring young athlete across the weekend so come with the family and fanclub\, enjoy the racing and festival atmosphere regardless of age or ability and make Lough Cutra your destination race in 2021. \n\nThere is something for everyone at Lough Cutra Castle Triathlon & Multi-Sport festival in 2021\, check out all the details on www.loughcutratri.ie  \nFollow us on Facebook HERE \n\n

SUMMARY:Ray's Marathon Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Ray’s marathon Challenge\nDo you think you could run or walk 26.2 miles in a week\, every week\, for a full year? Now that’s a challenge – that’s Ray’s Marathon Challenge. \nRay D’Arcy is a long-time supporter of LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and he loves to run. Ray figured if he could get 1\,000 people like him to run or walk a marathon each week during 2021 and each raise €500 over the year that would generate a whopping half a million for LauraLynn. \nWhat do you think? Are you in? \n\n\n\nA Message from Ray\nAs many of you know by now I am a long-standing supporter of LauraLynn Children’s Hospice and the amazing work that they do for families across the country. I am also a big fan of running and training for marathons and marrying the two together I came up with Ray’s Marathon Challenge! \nI know if you’re like me\, you’ve really missed the community feel of running a marathon and the motivation and strength that you get from feeling like you are part of something bigger and I think that is exactly what we have been able to create with this challenge\, even if it is in the virtual world. \nThe new year is a perfect time to start this and challenge ourselves and I am so delighted that so many people have joined my team for this and have gotten behind it so happy running everyone!

SUMMARY:Virtual Medieval Marathon Kilkenny
DESCRIPTION:*It is with great regret that we need to inform you that this year’s event has been postponed until 2021. After much deliberation and close consultation with local authorities and Gardaí\, we feel this was the best decision for all concerned. Our primary concern is you\, our valued participant and we feel deeply saddened at having to reach this decision. \nWith the ever-changing circumstances and recent government decision deciding not to move to phase 4\, we feel that it would not be fair to you the participant to reduce your overall race day experience and place your safety at risk.\n\nHowever\, we do have some good news. We have decided to go virtual with the event. We hope you can enjoy this virtual experience with your fellow participants and take part in the fun.

SUMMARY:Dingle Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Proud Winners of the ‘Half Marathon of the Year’ 2015\, 2016\, 2017 & 2018\n\nWAITING LIST NOW OPEN HERE\nDingle half and full marathon takes place around the spectacular Dingle Peninsula on Saturday 5th September 2020. \nThe course consists of a Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and a Full Marathon (26.2 miles) which traverse the spectacular Dingle Peninsula.  This is a ‘must do’ event in one of Ireland’s must beautiful locations on Slea Head with the course designed for runners and walkers to enjoy its breath taking scenery and beautiful rugged coastline. This is the only day in the year when vehicular traffic is removed from Slea Head immersing runners in the natural beauty of the Dingle Peninsula on the Wild Atlantic Way. \nDingle town comes alive this weekend with an incredible atmosphere and good times guaranteed all weekend.  The Dingle Marathon is not just a marathon; it is the experience of a lifetime.  Many seasoned international runners have described the Dingle Marathon as simply the best that they have experienced in the entire world.  The unique “Dingle vibe” is very difficult for us to explain but once you’ve experienced it you’ll never forget it!

SUMMARY:Quadrathon International Festival
DESCRIPTION:Half\, Full Marathons over 4 days  \nThis is not just another running event\, it’s more personal than that\, the concept of this event is experiencing camaraderie\, lasting friendships\, amazing scenery and unequalled hospitality during this iconic 4 day running festival. \nWitness the scenic Wild Atlantic Way\, run a different route daily along rugged coastal roads in the unspoilt Inishowen Peninsula\, home to Malin Head the most northerly point and steeped in scenery\, history and tradition and experience the hospitality and warmth of both locals and organisers. \nWhether medals are your thing or not you just can’t overlook the Quadrathon Medal\, every finisher of this punishing 4 day event is a true winner and the medal is testimony to that ethos. We would argue that its in proportion to everything else about the event which is bigger and better. \nAthletics Ireland Permit          YES

SUMMARY:Portumna Forest Marathon
DESCRIPTION:Portumna is a small town in the heart of rural Galway on the West Coast of Ireland. The name Portumna comes from the Irish word Port Omna\, meaning the landing place of the oak tree. So not surprisingly\, perched on the edge of the quaint little town is a magnificent 450 hectacres of coniferous woodland of Scots Pine and Norway spruce. Portumna Forest Park is also home to a whole host of animals including Fallow deer and the red Squirrel. Every June\, the agility of the wild animals in their natural habitat is mimicked by the ‘best of the best’ of distance runners from all over Ireland. In recent years participants have come from all over the world in their quest to find the ultimate Ultra marathon. \nTaking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners\, crew and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment. Everyone talks a little softer and smiles a little wider. When those inevitable Irish rain showers put in their short but frequent appearances\, everyone looks up at the rain drops through the leaves and marvels at the reflections of the rainbows in the puddles – appreciating the fact that the rain had a vital role to play in providing such a luscious backdrop for the run. \nThere is of course a more practical reason that this Marathon remains one of the most popular ultra events in the country – Portumna\, whilst rural\, is also very accessible from all four corners of the country. \nBy the time nightfall descends on a summer Saturday night\, over 1\,000 competitors would have completed one of the five races on offer -100km\, 50km\, Full Marathon\, Half Marathon or 10k. The fact that runners of all ability and speed are running together turns the event into a motivational haven where training tips and running experiences are shared enroute and everyone leaves determined to move up to the next distance before returning next year. \nFor more infomation on the event click HERE
