SUMMARY:Leenane 5 Mile Run | Jog | Walk
DESCRIPTION:Why not join the local run in aid of the upkeep of Leenane/Maam Red Cross ambulance! \nThe third Sunday in November\, November the 18th\, will see the tenth running of the Leenane 5 Mile. The event is open to all\, from elite runners to joggers and walkers. \nThe entry fee is 15 euro for an individual and 25 euro for a family. All monies raised go towards the upkeep of the Leenane/Maam Red Cross Ambulance. Registration is available through runireland.com\, via our website and limited registration will also be available on the day. Pick up your race number in the Community Centre\, Leenane\, from 12noon onwards. \nThe race starts at 2pm. Every participant receives a medal and there will be refreshments available in the Community Centre directly after the race. Get back early for some of the famous post-race cake! \nThere will be prizes for the first\, second and third male and female. The run starts at the Hotel in Leenane\, comes through the village and out the Westport Road\, turning right and around the beautiful townland of Glan\, then back into Leenane to finish in the village at the main car park. The surroundings are breathtaking as the route closely follows the shoreline of Killary Fjord. \nThe event is perfect for adventure racers and road runners who want to hold onto the fitness they have earned during the summer\, and 5 miles a very achievable distance if you are a first-timer. DESCRIPTION:Welcome to Joe Duffy BMW Clontarf half marathon and 5 mile. This is Ireland’s flattest half marathon and flattest 5 mile. It takes place in the scenic setting of Clontarf Promenade and Bull Island with views of Howth Head and Dublin bay. The race is contained within an off road promenade and Bull Island giving it unique and relaxing appeal. \nBoth races are open to runners/ joggers and walkers. The flat terrain makes it an ideal race to aim for a PB. The half marathon has pacers to help you achieve your Goal. DESCRIPTION:Venue:\nThe race starts and finishes in the village of Corofin. The race will start at 2pm\, race entrants are asked to assemble at the local Community Centre (Dr. Duggan Hall) at 1:50pm prior to being directed to the start line. \nThere will be limited changing facilities at the Community Centre. Registration will open at 11.30am in the local community centre where race packs will be available.\nToilet facilities will be available in Corofin Community Centre and post- race refreshments will be served here also.\nRace Entry is €15 Early Bird Online Pre-registration/€20 Registration (Online registration will close 1 week before race) https://register.primoevents.com/ps/event/Corofin8k\nRoute:\nThe race route starts at ‘An Dunan’ in Corofin Village. The race takes the next right turn and continues to St. Colman’s National School \,where a right turn is taken\, and continues down the Pollinore road for approx. 4km. The race turns left towards Curry village and proceeds to Curryoughter where a left turn is taken at cross road for the last stretch back to the Finish line in Corofin village at the local Community Centre. The route has been permitted by Athletics Ireland.\nDirections:\nThe village of Corofin is located quite close to Tuam.\nIt is easily accessed from the N17 (Galway to Tuam) or via the N347 (Athenry to Tuam). There will be some signage of the road indicating that there is a race up ahead.\nFun Run:\nFollowing the sucess of last years ‘Fun Run’ there will also be a short childrens race on the day for children of national school age. Prizes will be provided to all children who enter. The fun run takes place at 1pm.\nRegistration:\nRegistration will take place on the day from 11:30am to 1:30pm in local community centre.\nPrizes: First\, second and third place prizes awarded for men and women\, prizes also given for category winners. \nFirst 200 entries receive race t-shirt.

This event is run by local athletics club Corrib AC and is AAI permitted.\nAdvantages of this event:\n• No cars\n• Opportunity to try elevations\n• Beautiful location\n• Finish on a 900m down-hill\n• Options of 8k & 4k routes\n• 8k perfect for those who have completed the Streets of Galway 8k training or are planning to run the Carna 10k.\n• 4k ideal for those starting their XC training\n• Friendly atmosphere & lovely goodies afterwards.\nThere are striking technical t-shirts for entrants.\nPrizes:\nPrizes for:\n• The first three male and female athletes in both races.\n• The fastest male and female juvenile runner in the 4k- aged 14-17 years.\n• Corrib AC members will be competing to be the fastest club member in the 4k and 8k.\nThe Galway Wind Park\, (Seecon East) is located in the Cloosh Valley on the R372\, approximately 7km south west of Oughterard\, Co Galway/ Uachtar Ard\, Co. Na Gaillimhe. This is approximately 33kms from Galway City and takes on average 45-50 minutes to travel.\nIf coming from Galway city\, travel on the Clifden road N59 to Oughterard (30 minutes). In Oughterard\, turn left onto Station road\, Oughterard (this is the left hand turn just before the bridge and the RC church\, continuing on the R372 for approximately 7km ( Bóthar Sheanadh Phéistín/ “Shannapheasteen” road).\nPlease note that sections of the Shannapheasteen road from Oughterard are narrow. The race start point is on the left-hand side at car park 2\, Seecon East. Please continue past this to park.\nWe highly recommend car pooling.\nParking: The carpark for race athletes; registration and toilets are based at the operations centre of the Wind Park-on the right-hand side about 1km away from the start point.\nhttps://goo.gl/maps/pgE6e2gT52B2\nRegistration: Registration will take place from 09:30-10:40am.\nNB strict age restrictions: Please don’t bring younger children to the race location unless there is a non-running adult with the child. Children younger than 14years of age will not be allowed to run. This is based on athletic guidelines.\n• 4k race only for those 14 years of age & older.\n• 8k race only for those 16 years of age & older.\nEntry fee: €20 for 8k. €15 for 4k.\nDetails on 8k race: An up and back down route.\nThe first 3k of the route involves gradual ascents with some downhill sections; there is a tougher ascent after the 3k mark.\nAt the 4k mark\, runners will turn around and enjoy a nice downhill section\, followed by 5-6 small ascents mingled with downhill/flat sections; ultimately finishing on a pleasant downhill. In summary the first 4k of the route is the hardest section so pace yourself and aim for a negative split on the way back.\n4k route:\nAn out & back route.The first 900m will have gradual ascents\, taking a left hand turn downhill\, turn at turbine 15\, running uphill turn into and out of a short side route toward turbine 14\, continue uphill\, ascend and finish on a nice downhill piece. SUMMARY:Galway Clinic Streets of Galway
DESCRIPTION:GCH who are one of Ireland’s largest athletics clubs\, will host the 33rd edition of the famous Streets of Galway 8K road-race on Saturday 11th August 2018 at 7pm around the city centre and Salthill. This event is the jewel in the crown of road races in the West and is a fixture on the Irish running calendar. \nThe race route starts at Fr Griffin Road in the city and takes in many of the sights of Galway city. including the Spanish Arch\, Eyre Square \, the landmark Galway Cathedral and NUI Galway early on in the race. The course then routes out towards Salthill\, past Pearse Stadium and then back in on the ‘Prom’ along Galway Bay for the last \, fast section into the finish at the historic Claddagh. The event was first staged in 1986 and the ethos from the start to the present day has always been “sport for all”. The race attracts runners of all standards and ages from all over Ireland and abroad – from elite international athletes\, to athletics club runners\, competitors from other sports and fun-runners\, joggers and walkers alike. This year well over 3\,000 runners will take part in what is a truly iconic race on the calendar and is one not to be missed. SUMMARY:Strawberry 5 Mile Road Race
DESCRIPTION:This is the inaugural year of the event which comprises a new 10 mile and a 5 mile road race. The race takes place at the height of the Strawberry Season. \nThe race is hosted this year exclusively by Slaney Olympic AC as a club fundraiser. \nEntry fees have been kept to a minimum while still retaining the usual high standards of the race. The 10 Mile runners will receive a custom made medal and a custom buff whilest the 5 mile runners will receive a medal. \nUp to 22nd June entry fees are: 10 mile race €20; 5 mile Race €15\, thereafter on race day entries are 10 mile €25 and 5 Mile €20. \nThe event will attract everyone from the country’s top athletes to the club and fun runners. There are pacers for the 10 miles at 60 mins\, 70 mins\, 80 mins and 90 mins to help participants achieve their goals.\nThere will be prizes (more details later) in the open races and and all veteran categories. All runners receive a special Finisher’s Medal and tea/coffee and sandwiches at the Riverside Park Hotel. \nThe races start and finish on the banks of the River Slaney in the historic town of Enniscorthy. The 10 Mile route runs along the river\, through the town and past the castle before heading out on tree lined roads through the pastoral County Wexford countryside in all its summer glory. All water stations supply 250ml bottles. \nThe event is renowned for its festive and friendly atmosphere with music and race commentary and a start /finish area which is second to none. \nEvent details and schedule\nStart Time: 10am for 10 Mile and 10.30 for 5 mile race

SUMMARY:Abbey 8km Challenge
DESCRIPTION:The Abbey 8Km Road Race takes place around the Village of Abbey\, Loughrea. It will be chip timed again this year and all race entrants will get the Abbey 8KM Tech T Shirt. Last year we changed the route to a flatter 8Km course and it proved a great success. The race this year will be on the same Route\, starting and finishing in the Village\, close to the Community Centre. Registration will take place in the Community Centre on morning of the race from 10am to 11.30am. There are toilets and a bag drop in the Community Centre. Parking is very close by. All funds raised to the up keep of the Community and the Abbey Scouts.
