Press Releae Press Release

Wednesday 16th February

Rough Diamond & Padraig Marrey use rugged Connemara to create a stunning course to finish in Clifden.

The Connemara Rough Diamond Adventure Race will take place on Saturday 4th June 2011 (Bank Holiday weekend) and aims to build on the success of last year’s race, which was widely recognised as one of the most enjoyable entry level / sport adventure races of the 2010 season. This year the race finishes in the busy tourist town of Clifden and we’re guaranteed great craic after the race as it’s the June bank holiday weekend. This year we are holding 2 races on the same day, a Sport race and an Expert race which is being designed by Padraig Marrey, Overall Winner of Ballyhoura Blitz, Gaelforce and Achill Roar 2010!
As you would expect from the Rough Diamond events we will continue to build on the ‘criac’ theme for the sport and intermediate courses, which can be completed in 2 – 4 hours and are accessible to all levels of fitness. For those who want an enjoyable, challenging and very rewarding experience against the back drop of stunning Connemara scenery this is the event for you. Check out www.connemararoughdiamond.com for a flavour of last year’s race as well as feedback, testimonials and other news. Expect the Unexpected!

The Expert course is for those who want to test themselves against the wilds of Connemara, with every section that bit longer with an added mountain run, the full Diamond mountain loop and the Sky road which is the sting in the tale, as the winners will not be decided until they start their freewheel of the Sky road to Clifden. This course has been designed by Padraig Marrey and is 56 km. Every detail of the course will be overseen by Padraig until 1pm on June 4th when he will compete in the expert category. Sign up now on www.connemararoughdiamond.com and test yourself against the top Adventure Racer in Ireland in 2010. As Padraig puts it “this is the best course design in Ireland with a range of disciplines to be overcome”.

All races start on Lettergesh Beach and finish in Clifden 15 miles away by road. Free Shuttle buses between Clifden and Lettergesh will run from 10 am to 8 pm on race day. Back by popular demand are a range of pasta dishes that are served at the race finish to all competitors to replenish those tired leg muscles. Musical acts are being confirmed for the after party and a range of accommodation contacts and packages are available on the website.

Padraig will be giving tips on various elements of the course and will also be supporting people with a 12 point training programme which will go out every week on Facebook. So ‘like’ Connemara Rough Diamond on Facebook or join our newsletter on the website and avail of this free training programme and make 2011 a fitter funner year!

Watch out for a training day date with Multi adventure race champions Mary Mulchrone and Padraig Marrey.

Teams of 4 can also entered be entered into each of the three categories. The team with the lowest average of time will be the winner.
