October 4th The 2nd annual SURF ‘n’TURF race will take place on October 4th in Curracloe, Co. Wexford. The race is once again being organised by BORN2RUN who have established a reputation for organising quality multi-terrain races in areas of outstanding natural beauty. SURF ‘n’TURF offers runners the choice of 3 routes, a marathon, a half marathon or a 10K. There will also be a 10k walk for those who’d like to take things at a more gentle pace. Last year the inaugural SURF’n’TURF attracted hundreds of runners from all over Ireland and this year’s race has attracted higher numbers to the event.

BORN2RUN’s motto is GREAT RACES IN GREAT PLACES and Carol of BORN2RUN (originally from Wexford) says that the beach and forest at Curracloe/The Raven offer the perfect setting for the type of race that they organise. The recent boom in running means that there are literally hundreds of races taking place in every village and town in Ireland , ‘We are runners ourselves’ says Carol of the BORN2RUN Team ‘ and we felt that there was a need for more scenic, off-road, multi-terrain races. All our races are in areas of outstanding natural beauty – we don’t do road races as there are enough of these already on the athletics calendar’.
All finishers will receive a beautiful commemorative medal and post race refreshments. The race will be chip timed by Champion Chip Ireland. The route is a combination of forest trail, beach and a small stretch of country road, the tide will be well out so the sand will be hard and comfortable for running on. Anyone who wants to view the route or get more information on the race can go to www.born2runevents.com.
BORN2RUN have selected Wexford Marine Watch as their chosen charity and will be making a donation to this very worthwhile charity from the race entry fees. Wexford Marine Watch was was established in December 2012 primarily to try and combat a long epidemic of suicides in the  Wexford Harbour and Bridge areas .
Wexford MarineWatch provide the Harbour area with ‘Safety Prevention Patrols’ – operated various nights a week by specially trained Volunteers. These members kindly volunteer their free time on a rota-basis each month, to help prevent loss of life, make people aware of the dangers of the water and provide assistance to someone who may be in difficulty. They also monitor life-saving equipment in the area ensuring all are intact and functioning correctly, whilst replacing any damaged/vandalised items.
BORN2RUN are delighted that  Wexford Mayor George Lawlor who is also an avid promoter and supporter of Wexford Marine Watch will be on hand to sound the starting gun and present the prizes again this year.
