11th Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge

Competitors from all over Ireland and beyond will vie for places in the 11th  ‘CLEC’ multi-endurance event, on July 9th, 2011. The Carlingford Lough Endurance Challenge or ‘CLEC’ is Ireland’s longest running multi-sport event, which traverses the local Cooley Mountains and navigates Carlingford Lough in Co. Louth and involves Trail Running, Mountain Biking and Sea-Kayaking.

 

 

Once again, there will be two separate races this year, the Mt. Bike CLEC, comprising of two and three person teams only – Total Distance 48k, approx. finish time bewteen 4.5 to 6.5 hours. (9.5k Trail Run; 17k Mt Bike; 3k Peak Run; 4k Mt Bike; 2k Fox’s Rock Run; 9k Mt Bike; 2k Sea-Kayak; 2k King John’s Castle Run.)

The Sports event or ‘ Tarmac’ CLEC will be an individual event and shorter, using a road bike, but covering some of the same run and kayaking sections as the Mt. Bike CLEC – Total Distance 36k, approx. finish time between 2.5 to 4 hours. (4k Trail Run; 12k Road Bike; 2k Fox’s Rock Run; 15k Cycle; 1k Sea-Kayak; 2k King John’s Castle Run.)

There will be a limit of 300 participants. 150 competitors in the Mt. Bike CLEC and 150 competitors in the Sports ‘ Tarmac ‘ CLEC. And after all this,hopefully still have the energy to enjoy one of the best BBQ’s and post event party, on the circuit at Carlingford Sailing Club.
