Thomas Chamney and David Campbell shine in Oslo
In recent years it was something of a novelty to see an Irish runner competing in IAAF 800m event. So, to see two Irish athletes line up at the start of the big Bislett meet in Oslo was a sight to behold. The two athletes involved were Thomas Chamney (Crusaders AC) and David Campbell (St. Coco’s AC), with Chamney in lane 1 and Campbell in five.
The first half of the race gave the impression they were watching each other. However, the last 100m saw both of them cut through the field, and obviously running fastest of all, for Chamney to finish third, just one position ahead of Campbell.
The final results showed that Yuriy Borzakovskiy won the race, with Chamney in third in a time of 1:45.41, well inside his previous best of 1:46.46, and Campbell fourth in 1:45.59, another big PB bettering his previous best of 1:46.05.
