David McCarthy marks his return from US with PB

David McCarthy (West Waterford AC) was just out sprinted at the finish of the 3,000m at the Memorial Leon Buyle in Oordegem Belgium today. He finished three tenths of a second behind South African Gelant Elroy. McCarthy’s time of 7:56.71 marks the first time he has broken eight minutes.
Fellow Waterford youth Shane Quinn (Ferrybank) was also in PB form with a time of 3:50.43 for 1,500m.
Irish under 23 100m champion Jason Smyth (City of Derry) was also in action, winning the 100m in 10.51.
