Corkagh Park Dublin, Sunday 12th October Brain Tumour Ireland is holding its third annual fundraising run in Corkagh Park, Clondalkin, Dublin, on Sunday 12th October at 11am.
The event forms part of “Walk Around the World for Brain Tumours”, a project co-coordinated by the International Brain Tumour Alliance (IBTA). Brain Tumour Ireland will donate the mileage covered in Corkagh Park to the IBTA’s “World Walk” target of circling the earth to raise awareness of brain tumours globally. Participants can take part in a 10k or 5k timed race, or a 5k family fun walk.
Brain Tumour Ireland was launched in November 2012 in memory of Ronnie Fehily, an otherwise healthy and active mum of four, who died of a brain tumour in January 2012. Ronnie’s family set up the charity to help others who find themselves in the same position they did during her illness.
Speaking on behalf of the charity, Ronnie’s sister Sandra said: “It is great to be part of an international awareness campaign for brain tumours, which are not often talked about in the public arena.
“As well as raising awareness, our Corkagh Park run is the main annual fundraiser for Brain Tumour Ireland and is crucial to the work we do in supporting brain tumour patients and their families.
“This year we commenced a series of Wellness Days for brain tumour patients and held a support and information day for their carers during National Carers’ Week. We are also holding a special remembrance service for the bereaved in the Wisdom Centre, Dublin 8 on the 22nd November.
“Whether you are a serious 10k runner, or want to beat your own 5k personal best or just enjoy a nice walk with friends and family, there’s an option for you in Corkagh Park on the 12th of October. We will also have children’s entertainment at the event to ensure a great family day out.”
