I always new my ultra friends "were out of their minds" but as Mick Rice said :

"How many people in the world can say they've covered 100 miles on foot at one go"

http://www.connemara100.com

We definetly need to bring the Ultra running back, I was at the world Champiosnhip last year with the Irish team, all real nice people.

I also went to Germany to watch Mick running and was amazing, and I will definetly go to connemara in a "support crew" trip :-)

who's up for it ?

hi guys,

Just let you know that the group started this morning at 6am. Was raining but the weather became warm very quick....a real beautifull day so far.

I Can't tell you much at the moment but right now they are passing the 50mile mark. Things going well, our doctor Tadgh is doing a great job along with the ambulance and medic.

The crews are really cool to work with and the atmosphere that I experience is just like people having a wee bit of craic around connemara. maybe nobody told them it is actually a 100miles

Each crew follow their athletes, and every check point seems to be working well.

Anyway this is my quick view from this morning, and now I am at the finish line waiting to see some athletes, crawling toward me..... just messing off course.

I will be waiting for a good bit at the finish line, certainly all night, so might try to give you more info.... Mick is leading, then jo and Val....

I am technicaly the only one at the 100miles mark !

How do you train for a 100miler? Read Mick Rice report and a 6.25 min miles jesus how on earth do you do that for a 100miles? If I lost 2min over a marathon it'd be happy days never mind over 100miles! Very inspiring though and thought provoking. All you experienced people share your experiences and experience of training etc. all information be great so that maybe I'll take the plunge?! Be very cool to have a 100miler on your running CV, yvonne

Mick would say :
"easy just keep running"
I went with  Mick in a few races and I do admit that with the other Irish athletes they certainly deserve a round of applause !
They are unreal machines.... Forest Gump has some serious competition !

I just want to acknowledge that we received a post that I will not publish regarding this event for abusive language and for disminishing the runners of this event. (just in case the writer said on other forum and ultra website that we do not publish all the comments.

The other reason was the post used a invalid email and off course as anonymous. My Personal answer to his/her question is very simple :

- if distance not accurate feel free to measure it yourself ! then you would have an accurate and valid comment.

- if you do not recognise the achievement of some athletes, put your shorts and shoes on and have the guts to challenge them on the event itself.

- Please stop hiding behind anonymous users, and try to change your writing style or IP we have other method to know where the commenst are from, this is very childish and does not reflect what this forum is about.... a real and honest community.

By the way some of the performances have been officially repeated in France under IAU label and do reflect the performance. (Oooooouuuuuuch !)
Finaly this person seem to not been able to sleep over this matter for posting so late at night. There is plenty other event for him/her around like the Portumna 100km which might be more suitable, much easier and not as challenging than the CM100.

Hi Seb,

Don't know what that person said but it obviously really hit a nerve! I am full of admiration for these super athletes, just wish I was one of them so well done you for defending them against offensive comments, you are right this forum is not for that type of comment but for encouragement of fellow runners of all abilities and for the passing of information to help each other! Something that person doesnt seem to appreciate!

Keep up the good work and thanks for all your positive comments and to those 100mile runners I take my hat off to you all and may the wind be always at yer backs!

Thanks great question for a first post !

I would love to know where you heard this to be honest this is really funny, maybe next week it will get shorter...... maybe since the earthquakes and volcano the road shrank, we need to do some serious research.

Some guys can't be helped and really need to get a life and stopped been jalous of people who just enjoy the sport or do has good than them. I was there when it was measured with a John's counter so I can tell you that it is accurate.

You shoudl asked them when and how they measure the course, and how did they know that their measure is more accurate than the one we did. It took from very early morning to very late at night to do it properly, and woudl wonder if they had the guts to do the same (assuming they have the right course) and why would they re-measure it.

Again, and I stated it in the past, if someone has a doubt about it...... come along have the guts to do the race and challenge the athletes and make your mind then. It would be honest and fair play as any sports should be :-)
