Hey,

Can anyone tell me the story behind the Ultra Aid Stations? They are mentioned in todays info mail but nowhere else on the site. I'm curious as to how they work and where they are situated? I don't remember seeing any during the half-marathon last year so maybe they are all in the first 20miles?

Does anyone know?

Cheers,

Paul

Hi Paul,
Ultra stations are separated slightly from regular stations and are clearly marked. They are situated at mile 5, 10 and 13 of the ultra course and then alongside the other stations thereafter aprox every three miles. Ultra participants can place up to three items at any of these stations and can hand them in at the ultra briefing.

is there special bags privided or do we just use any oul bag

Hi,

I'd also like to know the answer to the above question. Also, are the stations attended to help find your bag and
prevent any mix ups? Not getting your food/drink would definitely mess up your race. I've read on another site that
it has happened before.

Cheers, Peter.

Is there any parking at Oughterard?

Hi David,

most people coming from the Galway leave their cars at the Gateway Hotel (Race HQ). Car park isn't very big,
so parking on the side of the road is ok.

Oughterard is a further half mile on, car park on right side as you enter the town.

Cheers, Peter.

Yes there is parking at Oughterard. Although we would love if everyone used the buses from Galway city to avoid congestion.

On the Ultra stations. Yes, the tables are attended - BUT with so many people on the road the stations can be crazy and items can get lost, or unintentionally taken by other runners. We try our best to separate and police them as much as possible.

Just to confirm also, three items only throughout the course! Not three at every station. That would mean potentially 330 items to be looked after every three miles which is unreasonable.

No, not quite.
No parking on the side of the road.
The car Park at the GAA pitch in Oughterard is better.

But better than that is avoid all the hassle, and leave your car in Galway City and hop on a bus at the Cathedral.
