Organising a longer ultra?
I think I have already started forgetting all about all the pain between miles 30 and 34. I was wondering if Ray and the team have any plans organising a longer ultra event, for example a 50 mile trail run like they have tons of them in the states.
I'd definitely be interested in signing up for that kind of thing. It would be great to try a long trail ultra here in Ireland; otherwise I might have to head over to Scotland in the next year or the one after that for the Highland Fling, or a similar race.
I can't be the only one stupid enough to contemplate a race like that, can I?
We've thought about a run from Cork to Killarney (about 50 miles) a few times. Main stopping point has been that some sections of the road are quite narrow and twisting with relatively heavy traffic but I still think it could be a good course at some stage in the future.
That sounds like a great idea to me, especially since I'm living in Killorglin, which would make the logistics easier.
If you ever think about doing that in earnest, I'd definitely be interested in joining up.
The road between Macroom and Ballyvourney isn't ideal, like you've said, but I do see cyclists on there from time to time, and they seem to manage.
why not use the Canal routes around ireland? i was looking at the Barrow way from Robertstown co.kildare to Bagenalstown in carlow. its approx 40 miles but it could be extended to new ross for 50+ there's also lots of other routes. you could even run from the source of the shannon to the mouth of the barrow coz the grand canal joins them both. organise it for charity coz loads of people would pay to see idiots like us doing something that crazy
