Mourne Way goes Ultra for 2010!!

26 Extreme are pleased to announce that the 2010 Mourne Way Marathon is set to take place on Saturday 12 June 2010. Following on from the success of last years race the event is once again set to attract runners from, Ireland, the UK and Europe to compete in what is fast becoming the most talked about off road marathon in Ireland.

In an added twist to this years event 26 Extreme are pleased to announce the “Mourne Way Ultra Marathon” – a back to back marathon event which will see runners run off road across 52 miles (84km) of the best scenery that Ireland has to offer in an “out and back” format. We will also have marathon, half marathon, 10k and 26 mile challenge walk events on the day.

All routes will be fully waymarked - therefore navigation skills will not be a requirement for this event.

There is something for everyone at the event and we also hope to have an expo area set up in Kilbroney Park on the day of the event which will have food stands and other shops / stalls that participants and their families will be interested in. If anyone wishes to reserve a patch for a stall please contact us through the email address on the Mourne Way Marathon Website and we will do our utmost to accommodate you.

Bring the family, stay in the locality for the weekend and enjoy the fun by competing in or taking part in one of the most exciting events on the running calendar.

Entries for this fantastic event are now open and all details are contained on the website – www.mournewaymarathon.com and you can click through to the entry page from this site also.

We can also announce that timing for the 2010 Mourne Way events will be provided by our events timing partner ChampionChip Ireland. No more dibbing at locations en route, just run, run, run.

I doing this off road marathon for the first time and while excited by the difference I'm not a very experienced marathon runner or a very fast one at that so was wondering if anyone has any tips for me to make the most of this exciting challenge!  I'm really looking foward to it as I'm told the sceanery is just amazing so I'm looking foward to getting some great pictures for my album. Maybe thats why I'm so slow! As when I pass a beautiful place I just have to stop to admire the beauty as I'm might not get the chance to pass this again. I started taking photo's of my runs last year as I did 9 half and full marathons for the RNLI in memory of my beautiful son who decided to end his life in October 2008 and I wanted a reminder of the places I had run with and for him and it's a treasured possession.  I've decided to do the same this year again for the RNLI as it's very hard to forget just how much work the RNLI put into retriving my sons body during the nine day seach! Sorry gone off point! I would love any advice for this challenge, waiting in anticipation, yvonne
