Hi Guys,

I nearly finished to review the last year comments regarding the 4 events. I would be happy to be get some more feedback to improve the event.Remember this event is made for Beginners, so there is no prices to win to avoid people to compete for it. This is not a Triathlon Ireland official event, simply because the one day licence and permit is too expensive and I want to keep this race cheap and affordable.

New things:
- category results will be added for each event
- Series overall age group winner will be published and will get a medal or memorundum (Ideas are welcome)
- Timing chip will be there, but to keep the cost low we will only provide finish time, it took too long to watch the video after each event last year, to get transition time. It will increase thentry price.
- Mini Triathlon will start during when the last swimmer will be out of the water, which will solve some time and stress to the young athletes.

Athleague:

swim : The main problem was the current in the river, but teh fact people can stand up make it very safe. I had the comments that some where not swimming, but what is important is to go from A to B, using the course so this will not change, exept if you have any ideas.
Bike/run: will be the same

Ballinasloe

Swim: strong current to cross over was a issue especially for the mini triathlon. The start will be at a different pace, and more boys and ropes will be there for safety reason and particpant not going backward :-)
Transition: depending teh weather, I might move it to the car park, was too mucky last year.
Bike: will be the same
Run : I will try to see if instead of 3 laps we can do 2 (the cross country will be the same)
Fundraiser for (Not decided yet, suggestion welcome)

Portumna
Was a great success.
swim : start was a tight, but great for spectators, so the start will be from the end of the marina.
Bike: will be the same
Fundraiser for Portumna youth Cafe

Portrun
Ok the one which need most of the re-thinking:
Car parking, and people moving there car before the end of the race.
Limit the race to 200 Particpants instead of 250. (transition and parking capacity limited)
swim: same no problem
Bike: reviewing route with the guardai, better signage, more marshall on the course (signs, Officials X2)
run: Will be the same with better explaination and more marshals
Fundraiser for Comans swimming club

Comments are welcome, "anonymous" post might not be published to avoid people to "impersonate 2 or 3 people like in the last year comments :-)"

Figures, video, pictures from last year are avalaible at wwww.irishtriathlon.com in the 25.5 series section. the price will be €30 this year relay are the same price (it does not cost more for a relay than an individual.... a only 2 extra bottle of water) there is no one day licence or other hiden Cost.

Note: We have now decided to go with timing chips for the races so cost of entry is now €30.

Hi Rich !

At the moment I am working on the dates depending on teh authorisation, I also want to add one more into the series.

29th august : Portrun
5th september : Clifden
12th september: Athleague
19th : september: Ballinasloe
26th : september: Portumna

There is lots in Ireland, if you check the calendar, for me to say which one I would advice is difficult, but there is the old races which have experience in organising the events, and the new events with new energetic clubs. Finally you have the corporate ones like us.

My favorites ones would be Phoenix park, Kinsale, Kilkee and Liam ball but that's just me, and then off course the long distance that I love :-) the half ironman in sligo was great but it is gone now :-(

Off course the one in salthill looks great (where I train) and we raise a good bit of money for Cope Galway, but I don't want you think I try to sell it to you as a race director !

dont worry about selling too me seb im a salesman myself :):):))
just on these ones you are organising since they are for beginners how challanging are they? will i be able to complete them? and what is the avarage times or each event? ie swim, cycle, run? also on the run my training partner is not the strongest of swimmers and you spoke there of being able to stand in the water is that ok to do that?

he told me also there are some triathlons that you can use a kayak? is that true?

Our events are challenging, simply because I believe that triathlon should not just be about how fast teh course ius, but how interesting it is, to develop different skills than just use the muscular power !

Last year we had lots of rain, so the swims where really cool, in ballinasloe you had to cross over the river and was though with the current then it was fine for the last 400m. In athleague you can stand but depending on the day it could be hard even to move forward. so that the good swimmers don't get advantaged :-)

I also like Ballinasloe because the run is cross country and if it rains it make it interesting, I just love when the course are different, and in cool places that nobody knows.

Some triathlon I did in France are Kayak then moutain bike then run off road, They kind of stop them for insurance reasons but it is one of the idea I would like to see happening in Ireland !

Hi Seb
If you are kooking for a charity to support for the Ballinasloe leg of the series could I put my name in the hat please. I'm try to organise a few events to help me raise €4000 to go to Haiti on a Build-it-week with a group called www.HavenPartnership.com.

I will help out and can have some info there on the day for people to see who and what they are supporting. I can also get some PR for you if you wish and look for spot prizes to give away by drawing out race numbers.

Its just an idea - I will understand if you want to stay with supporting a local charity.

Looking forward to taking part in as many of the 25.5k series that I can again this year.

The entries will be open this week.

The dates have changed due authorisation and logistic reasons (the calendar is updated)

Portumna : 5th of sept 09
Athleague : 12th of sept 09
Portrun : 19th of sept 09
Ballinasloe : 26th sept 09

It would be difficult to explain all the things behind the training, but the swimming would be the one to work on for safety reasons, so if you could do build up something like this once or twice a week :

W-up
400 to 500m easy trying to stop as less as possible (Very easy, not a race just a warm up)
Session:
- 4x100m ( alternating 100kicking then 100arms only) with a rest of 20secondes between
- 200m kicking on your side (make sure you are on your side not 3/4 or on your back) with hear on your arm and rotate your head from blowing in and out.
- then try to do 100m doing 5 strokes head down then 2 strokes head up (to train and see where you go in a triathlon)
Cool down
200m easy with some back stroke

Reduce or increase distance depending on your needs.

For bike and run try to go for example 30min bike then 15min run etc..... and same increase or decrease volume.

I hope this will help

My apology for replying so late, I just missed your post.

I was going to ask the Lyons club in ballinasloe, last year the predator triathlon club helped out.

If you are interested, we would need about 50 volunteers, and would raise a a wee bit of your €4000 for an half day of work for your volunteers. and a goof few meetings with me.

Give me a call at 0857350850 if interested.

Hi Seb, that would be excellent. Also I don't mind sharing with a local charity so everyone gets a benefit. Will talk to the guys in Predator at training and I also know some of the Galway club and maybe they will also be willing to help out. Meant to say on my voicemail that it suits me better to meet evenings, Friday's or weekends.

Thoroughly enjoyed my first tri!!
I did this event last year as (Cycle) part of a relay, but this year I went for the full one.
Swim was fine, if a little cold (although I went without wetsuit), cycle great, and the run (my weakest link) was enjoyable.
Smaller turn out than last year, but obv. a big TI event was the following day.
Well organised and in a beautiful setting.
Thanks again, look forward to next year, and maybe doing the full series!

My vote is definately keep the adventure swim! It's a challenge and sure it'd be no different to a training swim if there were no current.Keeps you awake.

Thanks to all involved today, great marshelling and the slip line type turns onto roads was a good idea. Figured the run was a bit (3k!) long but lucky I had conserved energy from my doggy paddling in the swim!
Felt fine for it though, I'm on my way to ironman status yet....

Thanks again

Thanks a million to everyone who is involved in the 25.5 series I had a great time last year, I was wondering where will I find last years results though, as I can't remember my time.
Thanks again
