Running Gait
Hi, looking for advice on changing or not. Here's the situation. I'm training for Stockholm marathon on 31st May. I'm up to 15.5 miles now and doing 17 this weekend and hope to hit 18 or 19 next weekend before i taper down.
Last week i noticed that my right foot swings out to the right when i stride, it must have only happened recently while upping the mileage because I never noticed it before. I immediately began to correct it and I have to say that it is a constant battle, I really have to try. Now im starting to feel a few adjustment pains in my groin and hip, nothing major but uncomfortable.
So, should I keep trying to readjust it or should I just let it do what it wants this close to the marathon in 6 weeks?
Any advice welcome!
Peace
AL
Hi Al, my immediate reaction is to change nothing at this stage of your preparation if it's going OK. Then afterwards, if you're really concerned, get a proper coach to have a look. It may only be a perception on your part.
Generally, if the knee is pulled straight through (rather than slightly inwards) the foot should follow. There are a number of drills which may help tidy it up.
But again I wouldn't do anything at this time to prejudice Stockholm - if it's a problem at all it's not a significant one for a marathoner. Good luck in the race.
Ahoy there better running people than me (-; I have another injury and i'm looking for advice, maybe one of you has experienced a similar problem?
I am 3 weeks from the Stockholm marathon, training was great until last wekend. I did something to my left hip. I dont know what or when it happened but now when i lift the leg to walk, try to use the stairs etc i get a very piercing pain below the hip bone where it joins the quads. I have had this a fe times over the years but normally goes away after a day of rest, almost feels like something is catching during the rotation of the joint?
Any thoughts or advice for a majical physical therapist in Dublin?

I personally recommend Dr Anne Marie Grant, she is a fantastic physio, and I send all my athletes to her. She also the Irish physio for lots of the Olympics.
but again, this is a personal choice.
email me at info@runireland.com if you want her details.
Howdy, incase your interested, I made a little entry for You Tube on my Stockholm experience... it fails to show i had to drop out after 13 mile because of the ITB. But back in the saddle dor Dublin in October.

I think guys you should write some small reports about the races you do etc.... That's what runireland is about, the runner’s community. Spread the words around keep the running alive by sharing experiences, bad or good it will always help someone else out there.
Have normal people like us writing our little stories about running. Remember that you finish first or last you will be as much tired... :-)
