Running Diet
Hi All,
Ive taken up running recently (7 Weeks ago) to loose some weight, the running is going great Im up to 1.75 Miles, and am doing a 10K in Limerick in May. My problem is the weight is not coming off, So Im putting that down to my diet which has improved slightly but not much. So my question is, ....is there a Nutrition plan out there that I could use in conjunction with my running over the next months to help with the weight coming off.
Any suggestions would be great..
thanks
Hi JackDust, Congratulations on taking up running and on your progress so far. When I took up running I thought I could eat what I wanted and often wondered why I didn't loose weight and I got a bit fed up truth be known but it was down to the fact that any of the information I was reading was really for the 'elite' runner which I certainly wasnt then and still amnt! I've just learned to eat what I need! If you go to the articles section at the top beside forums there is an article by Ruth Kilcawly on 'healthy eating', she is a nutritionalist and may have the info you require. I hope this helps and I wish you luck in your new running career and in Limerick in your race, yvonne
Hey Jack, good to hear you took up running. when i started running last year i found the same thing happened to me . I didn't see the weight fall off for a few months. I think what happens is that the extra weight we carry is actually turning to muscle which will take time and effort along with eating properly, but stick with it as the results are well worth while. I've lost three stone to date and am lighter than when i was a teenager, which is brilliant feeling when your nearing the big 40. So stick with it, put in those miles and enjoy rolling back the years. Best of luck to you. James B
Jack when the weather gets better and temperature rises the weight will fly off.. I started training this time last year for Chicago Marathon in October and lost almost 2 stone in the process..
Thanks for all your comments.
All going well, Up to 5K now, No change in weight, but feeling a lot better, Im sure it will come off in time just watching the diet. Thanks again

Hi Jack Dust
im no expert on this, but ive managed to lose a bit of weight myself. i done it by gradually increasing my mileage every week, should be aiming for a 10% increase every week. plenty carbohydrates ( pasta, potatoes, beans, raisins ) and proteins ( chicken, low fat milk ) - to name but a few, and lots of water with it. throw out the vegetable oil if you have any! plenty fruit ( bananas especially ) and veg ( again potatoes, and greens in the line of broccolli and spinach ). the above is a general outline of what should do the trick in startin ya on the right track from a nutrition point of view. best of irish with it!
