runireland do not encourage the exchange of race entries without the race organiser consent. Comments will be remove to support race organisers.

Seb,
I understand the difficulties, well to some extent at least, for race organisers but can't help wondering if the difficulties couldn't be turned into something positive. Could some sort of clearing house be created? it might keep some control over what is undoubtley going on anyway, might make things easier or more acceptable for folks that have paid 100e for an entry but had to cancel for all sorts of real reasons, but have no prospect of a refund.
The Connemarathon deferral system works well as I can testify, btw.

It might make it possible for people that find themselves in Connemara on holiday in late March early April only to find the best organised marathon in the west is happening on their doorstep but with no entries left.(slurp!!!)

If properly organised and managed it might work, might even make some money for somebody?

I agree with you, that events could have a system in place like Connemara.
I copy their system for all my events. Regarding the other events I don't have any control over it.
Personaly I don't have a major issue to swap entries to a certain time before the events (a month or two), but for big events there is definetly a health and safety issue.
But my  major concern are :
- spoiling the thread of people who asked for advices and are not relevant is really annoying
- People swapping entries, leaving their phone number and email on a public forum are extremly at risk for spams, prank phone calls or emails etc....
It is difficult to maintain the forum already, but I do it to protect the users, athletes too and off course respect race directors decision.
