Organising a 10k two possible routes one 9.8k other 10.4k which one?

Hi we are organising a 10k race for breast cancer and we have two possible start points one is 9.8k and other 10.4k does anyone know which one we are allowed to use is there a scale of what you can be over or under?

why don't you move the start line so that it is really 10K? I am no competitive but woudl be annoyed to discover my so called 10k was longer or shorter. I

If it is not possible due technical issue, you can just place the timing mats at the exact distance and the finish a bit later. If you explain this to the participants before hand and you have goodd reason I think it would be well accepted.

Iif you have absolutely no choice to make the race exactly ten k then go for the longer one and use sebs idea.
Otherwise you could try eight k (five miles) , least you have enough distance to be sure of that.

To be honest I think this is endemic in Ireland at the moment with every cowboy organizing a road race without the slightest idea what they are doing. This may sound harsh and I do realise it is for charity, but without someone who has experience in race organization these type of events can be dangerous. If you have no experience of organizing a road race, hold a table quiz instead!!
