Organising a 10k two possible routes one 9.8k other 10.4k which one?
Hi we are organising a 10k race for breast cancer and we have two possible start points one is 9.8k and other 10.4k does anyone know which one we are allowed to use is there a scale of what you can be over or under?
If it is not possible due technical issue, you can just place the timing mats at the exact distance and the finish a bit later. If you explain this to the participants before hand and you have goodd reason I think it would be well accepted.
Iif you have absolutely no choice to make the race exactly ten k then go for the longer one and use sebs idea.
Otherwise you could try eight k (five miles) , least you have enough distance to be sure of that.
To be honest I think this is endemic in Ireland at the moment with every cowboy organizing a road race without the slightest idea what they are doing. This may sound harsh and I do realise it is for charity, but without someone who has experience in race organization these type of events can be dangerous. If you have no experience of organizing a road race, hold a table quiz instead!!

why don't you move the start line so that it is really 10K? I am no competitive but woudl be annoyed to discover my so called 10k was longer or shorter. I
