Moone Kilomarathon
Did anyone here do this run on Sunday...Was it just me or did people find that amount of hills just hardship.
In fairness it was a great day and the people there could not do enough for you but the route was tough tough tough
Your thoughts please
I would definitely agree with you it was a very tough route, wasn't expecting so many hills & the heat was cruel.
The organisation was fantastic though. Well down to those involved.
God it was a tough one. Those hills just kept on coming & the heat didn't help.
But it was very well organised and there was plenty of water on the rout. Well done to all those involved.
Extremely tough course especially in the hot weather conditions. Very well organised race.
Turnout was about 200 for the Kilomarathon so decent numbers i finished 13th with a time of 1.52 so good run for me ...but i never forget all those hills
I just did the 10k run and the hills and heat definitely got to me. Would agree the organisers were great, plenty of water stations, etc and everyone was really nice and helpful. However would not start a 10k and certainly not a 26.2k race at 1pm in August, asking for trouble temperature-wise. Can't imagine there would be a problem moving it back to morning time.
First woman to finish the 10k in that heat was around 40 mins though so maybe it was just us feeling the heat!
Also the issue of having to collect numbers by 11.30 for a 1pm start was a pain, sat around in the car for 90 mins waiting to run.
Great day anyway and nice goodie bags and medals, look forward to next year!
The hills were tougher down than up, I actually found the climbs ok, but the downward legs was hell on the knees. I didn't stop in this race though, which was great, coz usually after 15 miles or so on the roads my knees hate me! This race was good, the water stations were plentyful, but I felt there should have been first aid stations alongs the route - at least 2! Those hills would be a challenge for any runner, to do it without first aid on the route in that heat was a little mad in my opinion.
Thinking back to Edinburgh Marathon - which I completed in 05:27:49 - the heat on that day was 25 degrees in the shade, there was a wall of heat like a furnace as you came in on the home leg and there were no hills, yet one person died, many collapsed at miles 14, 15 and 18 - there was excellent first aid stations along the route every 4 miles or so.
Fair enough, a Marathon is 42.2k, but this one was just as tough with those hills, the heat didn't affect me too much, but that was because plenty of water was available.
in the 10k walk at moone why was first prize not awarded to first walker accross line. it was given to 2people who ran the course. The organiser knows this. In the longer walk the first walker correctly got the prize after finishing behind 2joggers. This sort of carryon reflects badly on the organiser and wont do the race any good. Hope u explain your actions at nxt committee meeting
Ran the 10k and found it tough. Reckon that the highest climb was 80m over start/finish level and occured between 2 and 6k...tough. That being said credit to the winning time averaging 3.30 per K!!
The day was fabulous and the organisation was second to none....still trying to get sight of the photos...reckon there were thousands of official photos taken on the day. All right, so the route would not suit the purists but isn't it a great feeling to finish. Lads, its all in the head after all ...although I did have a few headaches in my knees and calfs for a couple of days.
Well done to the organisers....their efforts alone were magnificant. It was all about the competitors, and rightly so. The guy on the roving mike was great.
Looking forward to next year.
Hello all runners,
apologies for the shameless plug but I did get in touch with the forum admin who suggested I post here. I have 700+ photos from the Jim Roche race and it would be great to sell some (for a very reasonable price).
If you're interested, please drop me a line at nekelly at gmail dot com with your race number and I'll see what I have. I have some samples available at http://pix.ie/focused/1852785/in/album/384731
Regards, Noel.
PS. Well done to all who participated. It's no small feat with how hot the sun was and the hills!
Hi Noel,
can you post your email or give us a way to contact you?
Thanks
Hello Pat, sorry, I probably wasn't very clear. I'm trying to avoid spam so I wrote it obscurely
It's nekelly at(@) gmail.com
You know the way idiots write programs to scour the net for email addresses - I don't want mine picked up...
Thanks
Noel.
Hi i did it the 10k in around 50mins and i was disappointed with that time as it was my worst this year, but i feel a little better knowing that i wasnt alone in the struggling department with the heat and hills etc. The organisers did a fab job with all the tea and a baked good- really nice tea ladies. Did anyone else think it was funny that the lovely ladies (Kildare and Dublin roses) were there waving away and taking photos with people, thought i was in Father Ted for a minute.
I was so wrecked after the 10k that the lovely ladies were just a blur.....sounds like a 'Father Jack' moment to me. I agree that the organisers did a great job again this year. Rain held off and athmosphere wonderful. This is a lovely day for the 'have a go gang' and the hills probably put some of the purists off. So what, at least the rest of us know that we can go the distance on all terrain, and know that you have earned a medal.
True That!

Heard it was a toughie alright. What was the turnout like.
The winner did it in 1.31 or something mad :D
