Lurig Challenge Run - Cushendall, Co Antrim
Hi all. For anyone interested, i'm just letting you know about a run that our club promote in Cushendall, Co Antrim. This year it takes place on Saturday 8th August 2009 with a 1pm start.
The race starts and finishes in the middle of Cushendall village and follows a mainly off road/trail route to the bottom of Lurigeadan Mountain. From there it is a climb up the steep grassy slopes to the top where there are spectacular views of the Glens, the sea and the Scottish coast. The run then doubles back to the start finish area in the centre of Cushendall. The run is approx 3.5 miles in distance with around 1100 feet of climbing. The race attracts a large crowd of spectators along the route and especially at the start and finish. Prize giving and free refreshments (tea/coffee/sandwiches etc) take place afterwards in St Mary's Parish Centre. The local pubs are usually full of runners and supporters afterwards too! Registration is on the day in The Old School House in Shore Street (it will be signposted). Parking is easily available either on-street or at the Parish Centre at Chapel Road. Entry fees havent been confirmed yet but should be around £8 or so, and includes a t-shirt and refreshments.
