Best of luck with the race, great cause to be raising money for!

I have never organised a race but having run a few in Cork, Dublin and Mayo I think the price of €20/€25 is a bit steep for a 10k, especially when the run is outside a big town or city so you will be hoping people will travel. That said the prices for some other races are very high too but many usually have chip timing or goodie bags with sports t-shirts. If you have these I would highlight it on the website.

Other things that seem to make races go well are plenty of stewards to direct people (and cars), clearly marked mile/km markers and lots of water (esp at the end but perhaps at 5 or 6km too).

Hope it all goes well for you!

Thanks for your feedback. We went with €25 on the day to get as many as possible to enter online. Each Km will be marked  and I am working on goodie bags.If you think  of anything else please let me know and thanks again for your advice

I hope to take part, after all my home place is only 5-10 miles away, though I will have to travel down from Dublin. from my experience, I think the following list helps a lot
Low entry cost (the cost is already set so cannot change that)
Well marked course, mile/km markers
Stewards if there is any possibility of confusion on a road race/and to ensure that the runners are kept safe.
Segregate the starting positions into suitable finish times, for a 10K, say sub 40mins, sub 50 mins, 50mins plus and walkers. This prevents mixing up slow and fast people together and unnecessary bobbing and weaving through the first 1K
An accurate time measurement, eitehr chip timing or efficient tmiekeeping at the finish. A really good touch at the Dungarven 10 mile road race was a marshal at each mile marker, calling out the time. They were obviously synchronised with the starting whistle, and it allowed runners to know how they were going.
Choose a loop course (I dont like point to point so much)
Ideally have the course cross some populated area of organise one, so that in one or two places, other than the finish there is a group of spectators cheering. Some places organise a band at half way say and have people congregate there.
A goodie bag that contains something that indicates you took part in the race, ideally a printed tshirt.
Fanfare at the finish, cheering crowds, music, an MC calling out your name is really great. In Cork Marathon, they have a list of the entrant names and their numbers, so when I was coming up Patrick St, the MC was calling out my name and getting the crowd to cheer me home. Excellent!
Also starting on time is really important, if you are running, you dont want to be standing around for too long trying to keep warm.
Thats my 5c, hopefully it will be a success
