FIRST 5KM TIME
Have jus completed my first 5km run yesterday. Have been doing 1 or 2 runs per wk as training. My time was 25.24. Am wondering if this is a good time for complete beginner.
Thats a fantastic time for a beginner, I'm running 10 months now and the best I a have done is 26:12....( I am 47 years old :-(
Thanks for the reply. Have been traing for about 5wks and was very happy to be under 30mins. Goin to keep it going now and try lower it a bit.
iv planned my 1st 5k for sept (hopfully) so hoping
1. to finish it
2. to do sub 30 min

Best of Luck Cel101, Let us know the outcome...
Hi there, jus ta keep updated. completed my 2nd 5km in 25.05. Was hoping 4 a little quicker but happy to be lower dan 1st 5km. Am really enjoying the training and running overall and am looking forward to my next 5km.
While on the subject, did my first 10km on saturday in P Park and completed in 49.06. Felt like I had a bit of energy left and am going to try a 15KM this saturday. Have been training about 2 months now so is above time good for this amount of training and can anybody recomend a good 10km event in the next couple of weeks as I would like to try run in an event.
Good, I'd say bloody brilliant well done! I'm also a running novice training for my first 5km in November with 3 other running virgins and if I did it in 40 mins I'd be thrilled. If I do it in 25 mins i'm putting ad in The Times!!
hey all just did my first 5k, 27.45 absolutely d-lighted was hoping to do it in less than 35mins but adrenaline came outa nowhere and ran the last K in 5 minutes flat . now the 10k training begins lol
Well done Cel101 great time...
Just to cap this off, I read somewhere reliable that the world records and best PR is 13.30 for a 5K and 27.45 for 10K. I have a reference is anyone is interested. My PR is 59.05 for 10K and 28.07 for 5 K, compare that.
Most important is that we take part :)
He he, just looking at the times..... I ran my first 10k on Sat, did it in 66mins!!! back to the training....
Still very proud though, I ran it all, still had fuel in the tank. Had my 5th baby 5months ago, so things can only improve!!!! LOL!
Doing a 5k in two weeks, so would be aiming for 30 ish mins. Might have babyjogger, so it would be tougher...
Good luck with races.
I think I got 27min and a bit in my first 5k. I have it down to just over 23min now, but that was on the road with cars and people walking along etc and hills. Hoping to get sub-22mins next year (or later this year if I can find a decent race on). I haven't done many 10k, but I think my time is 55mins or so. Currently working on the HM distance and mara training.
Great time Eoin, started doing interval training last night, hoping to improve my new 5k PB which I set in the 1st 5k of the grant thornton 10k last weekend, finished in 53'40, but I noticed on my garmin the first 5k was a PB 25'40

Anything less than 32mins is considered running pace based on running being defined as a speed of 9.2kph or more so 25 min is v good. also average time from USATF is bout 27.11 (thats based on track running)
