Hi there. I'd love to run the half marathon.
Being totally honest, I've never run one before but have a reasonable level of fitness from the gym a couple of times a week and five-a-side football.
Have I enough time to train for it?
If so, can anybody recommend a good training programme if so? I'm pretty committed to this.
Any help much appreciated

You have enough time, if you have a level of fitness.

1st week in January 2007, I started training for my 1st ever race, the half marathon in Connamara. Got my gym instructor who also is runner to do a very simple, but effective programme, running 4 days a week with rest between days. It is very do able, you have plenty of time. I did the race in 1hr 56 mins. Was thrilled with the whole thing, the day itself, the weather, crowd, and just to complete it in under 2 hrs. My level of fitness prior to this was just walking. So you will be well able to do it. You have plenty of time. However, would recommend a running partner - someone to get you out there in the rain and wind, when you just want to sit in front of the TV and vice versa!!

And it is just addictive, back for more this year.

Good luck and enjoy it.

I'm doing my first half as well this year, again have OK baseline fitness but never run for 13 miles before, Started on the Hal Higdon programme a few weeks ago and it's going well - did 6 miles this morning, artic out there, from Blackrock to the end of Dun Laoighre Pier and back again. Delighted, the miles are clocking up. Am a bit wrecked now so I think I need to start looking at diet too - more protein and carbs etc than I usually would.

Looking forward to April!

This is my first time doing the event, am doing the half marathon.

Will certainly be looking for some celebratory drinks afterwards - where's the best place to be for the craic???

Looks like either Cliften or Oughterard???

I live in Oughterard and can honestly say Faherty's is one of the best places. I think that they're going to have something set up at the Gateway Hotel for the participants though. There are a few other good bars in Oughterard. The Boat Inn totally lacks atmosphere - I'd stay away from there. Keoghs sometimes has a live band which is good. I recommend doing a big of a pub crawl.

I'm staying in Cliften - Can anyone recommend where to go to celebrate there? Or where would be good for a nice meal that evening? thanks!

Anyone recommend somewhere for a massage the day after the race??

Hi Norah here, my therapy rooms are in Lettermore, Connemara, if you are still looking for a treatment the day after the race my website is www.galwaymassage.com you can find my details there.

When will the 2008 race results be on the website?

Hi
Does anyone know if the timing chip was individually activated at the start and the finish and if so how and where at the start?

The times are 'starting gun to finish line'.

We had a last minute hitch which prevented us using a starting line chip mat.

All official results are always 'starting gun to finish line' in any case, but we had hoped to have a starting line timing mat in place for this year.

Hi;
I know your post is two years old but I'll be coming to Ireland from NY and was wondering if you still lived in the area... if so, could you recommend a place to stay before and after the race? thanks -
