coming up to first half marathon
Hi folks, Im doin my first half on dec 10 in Waterford. I did 12 miles there this morning in 1 hr 40 mins and i am just wondering how i would go about speeding up that time a bit in the next three weeks?
Hi Deisecelt, in three weeks you won't improve a lot really. Just keep the training up and taper for the final week.
Hi Julie, First thing I would say is to try and find a running club in your area. There's a list on the Athletics Ireland website. They will be able to help you train for different races/distances and you will most likely find others doing the same training for the same event.
Don't run more than 3-4 times a week and only do one of those runs "fast". The rest should be done at a conversational pace to build your endurance, fitness etc. The fast run (speed work) could be interval training, a tempo run or a fartlek session. A quick look on the likes on Runners World can give you more info on any of these.
Cheers Eoin, will keep goin as is so. Julie if i were u id apply for a ten k race and work towards it. Theres loads of ten k training plans online. I just ran a little further each week and got there in the end.
thanks for all the advice much appreciated

looking for advice on good training for building up speed and distance.
I like to run but have no idea how to train for the like of a 10 k run.Would have the ten dance to over train then burn out to do nothing at all
