How difficult is it to get to this?
I might have a go at it if it was reachable by air and rail say. Does anybody
have any ideas about this?

I was thinking about doing this as a check on my progress. I have not done an ultra before so I wouldn't mind a race
to check the progress in Jan. The Conn Ultra will be my first ultra. Have done 14 marathons in the last 4 years.
Does anybody have any idea on how to get there?
I don't drive so it would probably have to be a flight and train.
Any info would be much appreciated.

Myself and another buddy from Athenry are doing this. We aare also using this as a fitness check before the Connemara Ultra. We are flying from Dublin to Bristol the day before and are probably going to hire a car to drive up to Gloucester. There's also a train I believe or even a shared Taxi might be possible (30 miles). I can't monitor this thread easily and so if anyone wants to get in touch I can be reached at mick@AthenryAC.com.

Cheers,

Mick Rice.

Hi, does anyone know what the story is with the warning against the use of ipods on the marathon course? I understand it's a safety issue but surely it's not something that will be enforced? It's my first marathon so am a bit new to all.

Hi there,
Yep the Ipod warning is definitely a safety issue.

Basically we have experienced this at first hand on a few occasions.
A lot of people do all their training in a park, or on footpaths, and wear ipods without any problem, or any real danger.
The difference is that the Connemarathon is on open roads [albeit with traffic restrictions].
Even with closed roads, a ipod will be a safety issue in that you will not hear other competitors / race vehicles coming up behind you.

Regards
Alan
