walkers
Are there many people walking the full marathon?
Usually about 15% to 20% of the entire field are walkers.
Walkers have their own start in each race (bar the Ultra), if they wish to avail, one hour before the main race.
I'm hoping to walk the full one ... though a bit nervous about the hills and how much time they'll add!! I know you say 15 - 20% of the entire field will walk but any idea how many are planning walking the full one ... I reckon we'll need a bit of moral support (as well as oxygen)!
Hi Anne,
Maybe not 15% in the full but there will definately be about 40 or 50 walkers in the full marathon. Some starting one hour early, others joining the main field... and if you go off one hour early, you're sure to see about 450 walking up the 'Hell of the West'

Ray ... dare I ask what the Hell of the West is?!!!
Anne
PS Be gentle with me!!
Hi,
The hell of the west is a small hill! It shouldn,t pose you any problems.
You will get such a fright when you see it for the first time the
adrenalin will carry you up. Hey it,s all part of the fun enjoy yourself.
You will have a great time this is the most fun of any of the races I
have ran.
good luck
Jimh
Do the walkers have any code of conduct as regards moving over for runners who'll be trying to get past? May not seem like a big thing but for the Ultra runners it could be :?
Walkers will be briefed before they set out.
Everyone is asked to keep to the left and pass right and always look behind before changing direction or crossing from side to side.
