Brief:
The HWPT "Adventure Challenge" is a challenge. This challenge is based on CSAR - Combat Search and Rescue, but it is also a weekend in the life of a Military Serviceman.
On this challenge you will be placed in a testing environment that challenges your fitness, strength, endurance, mental capacity, teamwork skills and communications in a competitive scenario that will culminate in a thrilling hostage rescue... but which will you be? A Hostage or a Liberator??
For this everyone that completes the course will get a custom made challenge coin and t-shirt. The winning Team members will receive a special plaque each.
If you consider your self reasonably fit, fancy the idea of a military experience weekend and want to do something unique - this is the event for you!
Your fitness levels should be reasonable, meaning you should be capable of moderate exercise and moving weight over distance. You will not be required to do hundreds of press-ups and sit-ups, although they will feature, you will be straight into Teambased exercises where you will earn points for your self and your team - the people with the highest points will make the grade... it's competitive but it's also fun.
The content comprises of;
Physical phase,
Mental phase,
Academic phase,
Teaming phase
Competitive phase
Everyone will camp out on the beach, there will be a muster board and everyone must pay attention to it. Instructions for the coming days will be written on this board by the cadre and there will be no verbal notifications, ALL notifications will come from this board.
There is much more to this than just a physical and mental challenge, it's all about team-work again but this time with the objective of beating others to the finish line.
arriving on Friday night, you will be processed and go throug some quick drill and teams will be assembled from this phase. Then you will be billeted for the night.
The Adventure Challenge plays out like this:
FRIDAY:
arrive onsite in Drogheda that evening where you will board a bus that will transport you to the beach for the Orientation Phase.
Orientation will bring you through processing, kit issue, briefing, drill and PT.
Following PT you will get a chance to eat before being billeted to your tent for the night.
SATURDAY:
On Saturday Morning you will be assigned to one of eight teams built up of 25 candidates and assemble for your first physical phase – you will be graded individually in this physical phase to accumulate team scores. This will result in the first grading and points tally of the day.
Following Phase 1, you will face the second physical phase; the O-Course. A custom made obstacle course that must be completed in an allotted time as a team – fail to complete it as a team and punishment results, for the entire team, it’s up to the leader to get their crew there on time together.
Phase 2 over, Phase 3 begins and the Boats enter the fray. Boat races and PT begins in earnest at this point. Again, grading is done but is based on the number of races won.
Phase 4 will involve more Boat Activities, but of a different nature.
Phase 5 is a teaming phase of a different nature and will involve building two companies of 100 candidates strong, or 4 platoons of 25. The O-course will be faced again as platoons only this time to improve on your last score and if you fail, well platoon leaders face the shit hitting the fan folks.
Following phase 5 you will complete Rifle PT and directly following Rifle PT you will get some scran (food), you will certainly need it.
After scran, phase 6 kicks off and is based on CSAR academics – Combat Search and Rescue. This will involve academics of Searching, Compass Work, Tracking, Signals and Communications.
On the 8k Tab your task as a company is to avoid being captured by our Directing Staff, who will imprison you in a central location that your company/platoon/section members and leaders won’t know about. Expect a lot of surprises along the route of the 8k Tab – but the main focus should be to keep up, or fall victim to being captured.
Grading will take place on this Tab too. Grading is done to allow us assess who will be on the team that rescues the captured hostages.
At 1930hrs we should be complete for the day, it’s time for some more scran and a quick debrief of the leaders to allow for planning for the next day’s rescue – here you will review the Tab and CSAR Tactics to assist planning a rescue mission the next day.
SUNDAY:
Depending on how you have performed on the Tab the day before, you will either be a hostage awaiting liberation, or you will be tasked with liberating said hostages.
Those that have made the cut will be on Team Daedalus as we launch Operation Icarus. Will you be on Team Daedalus and rescue the hostages? Will you even get that far??? Hmmmm, like we said, expect surprises left right and centre.
If you haven’t made Team Daedalus, don’t fret, we have another job for you, but it’s very secretive and we can’t give the game away by publishing it here.
Plugged Firing Cartridge Rifles and full working Marker Rifles that discharge expelled shells and have working magazine are used in this final exercise of the day. There will be multiple hazards, explosions, boobytraps, surprises and more to contend with throughout the rescue mission and it will be by no means an easy task.
Expect to see some grimace on faces as it happens, but Smiles of joy at the end when it’s all over.
Once the hostages are either liberated or Team Daedalus is no more, the signal for “End Ex” is given, thus ending the exercise and Challenge.
Full battle kit will be provided including protective gear.
The Plugged rifles used are actually authentic rifles use Cap Blanks but are not rifled and cannot fire live rounds. Essentially they have the same effect as a real Semi-Automatic or fully-auto weapon without the danger of bloodshed, but they are completely realistic and loud – coupled with the marker rounds, you will be ducking for cover quicker than you can say Alpha-Mike-Charlie…
Upon completion of the Challenge, awards will be made and Patch / T-Shirt presentations made.
Everyone that takes part will get an event t-shirt and patch as well as an AMAZING experience.
For 95 Euros, you won’t get this experience anywhere else – actually, you won’t get this experience anywhere else PERIOD!
Along the way you will encounter obstacles, booby-traps and deception to throw you off the trail and make it more difficult to succeed, but the best of the best will succeed, and the winners will reap the rewards!
You will need to bring some kit of your own, but pack light as most of what you need is included in the registration fee.
Remember; The only easy day, was yesterday…
