Woodie’s DIY Track & Field Club League Final

The curtain comes down this weekend on the domestic Track & Field season when the Woodie’s DIY Club League Final takes place in Tullamore on Saturday

Athletic clubs from all across the country will battle it out for the top positions in both the Premier Division and Division 1 categories with Clonliffe Harriers and Tir Chonaill A.C of Donegal both set to defend their respective men’s and women’s Premier Division team titles. National men’s pole vault champion, David Donegan and 1500 meters silver medlist, Mark Kenneally, lead the Clonliffe Harriers men’s challenge. The Dublin club are league leaders after two rounds, followed by Athletics Meath and St Abbans of Laois. Berlin bound Thomas Chamney of Crusaders A.C is expected to compete for his club in the 800m and newly crowned national 100m champion, Jason Smyth of City of Derry A.C will also be hoping to gain maximum points for his club. Last year the progressive Tir Chonaill Athletic Club from Donegal were voted overall Club of the Year at the Athletics Ireland Annual Awards Dinner and they again go into the League Final with a comfortable lead over Bandon A.C and Ferrybank Athletic Club. Tir Chonaill will have all of their top squad in action in Tullamore, including Mary McLoone, who competes at 400 meters and Michelle Harvey who will have double duty at 800 and 1500 meters. The highly rated Ferrybank pair of Kelly Proper and Niamh Whelan will also play a central role in bringing their club back into contention. Athletics Kerry are the current leaders in the men’s Division 1 club competition, with City of Derry and Limerick County also in contention. Athletics Kerry also lead the Division 1 women’s club race where the main contenders include Clonliffe Harriers and Kilkenny City Harriers. The leading clubs are awarded 9 bonus points going into Saturday’s competition-descending in order to 1 extra point for the 8th team in each division. The Woodie’s DIY Track & Field Club League Final will be the Grand Finale to what has been a successful Track & Field season domestically and internationally for Irish athletes.
